My grandfather owned hunting dogs. He didn't view them as companions. That being said he couldn't bring himself to hunt anymore when he got his dog Karly.

What I meant was he wasn't emotionally attached to them. So in that case... Well I wouldn't really say they were slaves, Workers seem more appropriate.

That's fair, and working dog does sound appropriate. Not slaves, because even working dogs are cared for by their owners. Not necessarily loved like a home dog, but still a form of companion.

I've been told that that is probably what happened. A mutually beneficial symbiosis. Combined with the need for both species to socialize, they became pets as well.

I had one of those little plastic kiddie pools, which she loved in the summer.

That is until she decided to drag it around and tear the side off to release the water. She was so proud of herself until she realized the pool didn't work anymore.

Mine can open doors, and they beg for food, but I never give them anything extra other than treats once in a while for good behavior. The rest of my family fucking spoils them though.

The extent of communication with my animals is a simple asking for this and that, and one of them shows me things whenever I get home from school. Usually the same thing, again and again.

My other puppy, however, is, I'm quite certain, mentally disabled in some way. Most of our "communication" is her barking like an idiot, and me making Karate Kid motions until she shuts up and runs away
