I can see how it looks confusing, but it's actually right. You could rephrase it,
"But the gift didn't matter if it wasn't what they wanted or from those from whom they wanted it."

Seriously? To me that looks even worse.

It is pretty complex. "But the gift didn't matter if (it wasn't what they wanted) or (it wasn't from [who they wanted it from])." I think I would have said, "...or wasn't from the right people".

Not so much. I think, more to the point, Deus was Blackjack gone bad. When Twist refused to even see him, he gave up trying to protect ponies and became the aggressor himself. That's something BJ hasn't done. Yes, she participated in 99, but she stopped and tried to push for change as soon as she realize what she was doing. When she realized what she had done to Boing, she immediately sought help. That's what the black-suited mare in Happyhorn was all about -- she represents Blackjack-as-Deus.

Well, yes. Perhaps I should have said Doof, rather. But by now Blackjack has at least one crime of rage under her belt. Sleepless or not, she is guilty of trying to murder Boing. She's where Doof was at the point of breaking. So she may not be Deus, but she isn't all that far from becoming him. Still, I probably should have said Doof rather than Deus.

She didn't target Boing deliberately. She targeted what she thought was a hostile Harbinger. If anything, it was voluntary manslaughter.

Deus/BJ redemption:
BJ is already strides ahead of Deus in terms of redeeming herself. She fails about half the time, has no single "Talk to Twist" style goal, just "do better" and she's mostly sucessful at that.

This is how I actually expected this works. While taking a single ultra-short frame is possible, actually streaming any data to any memory device at this speed is not. So you don't record frame-by-frame at full resolution, instead you send a light pulse, then shot a photo at selected delay and combine the photos into actual movie.
Similar to this trick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqUNd5wPGbU except using pulses of femtosecond laser instead of droplets of water: "strobe" at the right frequency and you can get arbitrarily slow "motion".

I think the final battle with the eater of souls will happen on a realm of existence beyond the physical. The only thing BJ will carry with her is a song, but only if she does redeem herself. The song she wields may become so strong I t may begin to slowly absolve the corruption from those forced to sing the eater's song. I think that discord will also have a part to play that is yet to come. I mean there is no way we have seen the last of him.
