Re: Fallout Equestria: Murky Number Seven
Wow, a long one this time.
- Spoiler:
Unity's ability to detect signatures rather fits with Murky's reactions to remnants of the past.
A peat fire, this high up a mountain? And the fuel stocks outside were wood… Very curious.
Hm, and Aurora's still around? I was beginning to suspect. Perhaps she's been maintaining the fire with magic?
…That is Shackles's plan? I believe that his expectations of Murky are rather flawed…
Oh, also, this solution is rather nasty, but, if you've no other options… just kill Unity (or Murky, maybe, but I think that he could be replaced and wouldn't work anyway). They can't duplicate her, after all. You could also use her as a hostage. But probably none of you are pragmatic enough to think of it, let alone do it…
Well, Ragini's gone… a pity. Murkini is now rather significantly more implausible. :) More immediately, it also disables the heroes' Plan A…
Something was definitely off about Aurora's ghoulification…
"What Grizzly said, to stop this the only way he can! They don't care if we don't get away...they only want to stop Shackles having the power to take over from Red Eye!"
…Or, you know, shoot Unity. I realize that it's unpleasant, but it's a lot easier and probably more likely to succeed. If you're really so desperate and determined…
Murky, the reason not to destroy the orb is not that it will activate the portal to get you out of Fillydelphia. There will be other opportunities to escape, and I think that there may be some slight problems with a plan that involves deliberately helping your enemy activate a mind control machine. The problem is that, after destroying the orb, you'd probably want to wait just long enough to see the look on Shackles's face before jumping off the mountain and trying to glide (or just shooting yourself), since he would then have no reason not to inflict on you every hideous thing he could think of in revenge for spoiling his years of planning.
"We can all escape forever, live somewhere better!"
Later:
ZAP! "We did it, everyone! We stopped Shackles, got through the portal, and -- oh, it looks like the zebra installation that the portal used to connect to is now a heavily irradiated lake filled with horrible tentacle monsters."
Protege isn't the only one who needs to be concerned about possibly irrational hopes, Murky…
Sigh… Murky… I realize that you have many good reasons to not be thinking rationally at the moment, but it still annoys me.
Huh. Okay, that was actually clever (though you both lose and gain points for having apparently only thought of it on the spot). Now let's see if you can pull this off…

I'm not sure I've really been taking him too seriously when I read it, so I might be wrong here, but: I think the point is more to freak your enemies out than to actually just be crazy for crazy's sake. Wildcard and his crew are all about projecting presence and getting under everyone's mental hide. That's not to say the drugs they take all the time aren't real, just that they deal with crazy the same way the deal with danger: Headfirst along the edge.

Re: Fallout Equestria: Murky Number Seven
Got off my lazy ass(again) and read the latest chapter. No no, there hasn't been a new one in the past few days, but the one swicked was talking about up above.
Hate to think I'm burned out on ponies, but I haven't watched the past three episodes of the show and I put off reading this chapter and the latest one for PH for a long while. I still enjoy them, but I don't feel compelled to read/watch them NOW and more content to wait.
That said, the break between chapters( longer since I did put off reading it) made me have to rethink everything about the characters a bit.
I remember Murky was getting stronger, but I had forgotten how strong he's become.
I remember Protege being broken and enjoying it, but I didn't realized how broken he was. Nor just how much of a slave he still is. Oh yeah, it's always been there, but it seemed to have been cranked up for this chapter. Must have been the desperation.
Ragini's death was... not predictable but didn't come as a complete shock. She got to see Murky "fly", told Protege off by telling him she didn't give a damn about the contract, and got one last chance to be a badass before Wildcard stopped having fun. All in order to break Protege and set up that ending.
There still seems to be something going on about or between Unity and Protege. Am I reading into something not there or missing something?
Speaking of Unity, I can't really say much I haven't already. I like her, but I still ship Sunny Number Seven. Her ability to tell magic signatures apart is cool I will admit that.
While I always enjoyed the long chapters, I feel it did a disservice here since it pretty much highlights in bold letters "Brimstone is going to lose!" The rematch better be worth it.
So many questions answered, so much to break Protege, so much snow, warm feelings and darkness. Though with the homestretch well within sight, the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a tiny one in the distance but pretty much only a few yards away with some thick heavy curtains hung to hide it.
Despite all this, still looking forward to the next chapter. And the one after that. Don't even know if Fuzzy comes by here anymore, but I don't see that as a reason to stop posting.
Oh, and since nobody has posted it, this went up April 30.

That whole chapter. So fun, so many revelations. It's not over yet. though. Cynical part of me says things in 25 are gonna take a dive immediately. It's going too well.
But for the moment.

Also, you sly one! I've sung those songs enough times to recognize bits and pieces of the lyrics, from both Wicked and Frozen. You, you,

Been reading Murky Number Seven little over 2 years now. Always though how cool it was that chapter 6 just happened to come out on the same day as my birthday. "Lighting the Darkness".
Two years later, on the day after my birthday we have Chapter 24: Defying Gravity.
The story is still far from over, but the light at the end of the tunnel is brighter and clearer than the Sun, and while things may cause it to go dim, those are nothing compared to the darkness we've been through to get to this point.
Other than "I really enjoyed this chapter" all I'm going to say is that you played me Fuzzy. Played me just like you played Murky. You clever bastard did you play me. But what fun is reading a story you can figure out well ahead of times?

- Comments on the new chapter:
- "Look, I...I know it doesn't make any sense! Something in me just didn't want to forget about him!"
…Oh, really?
I wonder what that might be. :D
"Not for them and not for your little colt. He's been returned to where he should be."
Ah, it looks like the villains at least aren't stupid enough to risk being found kidnapping one of Red Eye's foals. Hm, though… I don't recall just what Chirpy Sum's seen, but he might know enough to cause them trouble.
"I screamed, the most deliberately pathetic and whiny scream possible."
Ah, yes. Mr. Peace. I'd been forgetting about him. :D
I imagine that the thoughts of the non-Murky member of the party currently feature large numbers of "what"s, "the"s, and "fuck"s.
Yes, take the foals from their climate-controlled comfortable living quarters with clean food and water, friends, a small army of fanatical guards protecting them, and opportunities to learn and practice useful skills. I'm sure that they'll be much better off out in the Wasteland. Assuming that they don't absorb stray bullets during the escape, of course.
"I don't quite know why I got up and followed Protégé."
This, perhaps? :D
(Okay, probably not…)
"I heard the scouts said they're definitely coming this way, mate. Rumour is that old Red's got it bad over in Everfree too. We lost contact a while ago."
Oh, wow. So we're that far along in the timeline?
"Behind us, Mister Peace let Protégé through...before promptly tearing the entire grate off in one fell swoop for his own bulk to fit past. Why hadn't he just...oh forget it."
Hm. Showing off for Glimmerlight, Mr. Peace? :)
"last part of our plan. Right now, we had"
There are a lot of spaces between those two sentences for some reason.
How does Murky know about supermarkets at all, much less ones where payment is required?
Well. There's a surprise. :D
"Yet as I looked in his eyes I only saw fear...before he shook his head and slowly pushed my hooves away."
Aww. And that's probably the ship killed… Still, I've supported crackier. :)
I am a leaf on the wind; watch how I soar…
And there we go. A good chapter, I think.

Nothing from Frozen in there, I'm afraid! I'm actually not one of the bigger fans of it, purely down to over-exposure and not enjoying Idina's voice too much. (Kerry Ellis ftw. :3) Defying Gravity certainly is though. The story was made on its own originally, but after seeing the show in London I realised how close in tone the two scenes were. As such it only felt right to pay homage with the chapter title and a few lines. Elsewise people might have thought I was just copying!

Hehehehe, it's been a nightmare to keep this one under wraps. Every time I dropped one of the clues from Chapter 1 onwards I worried over what people might think or guess. I'm so very glad it stayed a secret this long.

Re: Fallout Equestria: Murky Number Seven
I just read Chapter 24. Holy wow gee-wilikers! It was awesome, it was sad, it made me really giddy and grin like a wacko. That was fantastic!
Re: Fallout Equestria: Murky Number Seven
Remind me again why this story isn't getting as much attention as Project Horizons? Seriously after reading chapter 24 I think it can safely be said that MN7 deserves just as much praise!
So I don't really have much else to say, other then 'awesome chapter!' and my attempts at making empty internet threats at Fuzz to WORK FASTER!!
- MN7 Chapter 24 Spoilers!:
- Okay so I must admit, I really did not see Mister Peace coming, despite how obvious it now seems in hindsight. Still I don't think anyone could have asked for a better scene to capitalize his grand re-entry! A pity Grindstone made it out alive but-eh, sounds like he isn't going to be around for too much longer anyway.
After the non-stop action of the previous chapters its good to see Murky and crew getting back to their roots by sneaking through the shadows and robbing slavers blind. On a personal note, I literally laughed out loud during the scene when Murky got "his" goggles back.
On a more ominous note, judging by those comments made by the slavers it would seem the events FoE chapter 43 have just now occurred or are occurring, so its only a matter of days or even hours before the Enclave come knocking. Not too surprised by this since when have the events of the larger world not conspired to make life difficult for Murky?
Those revelations regarding Murky and Unity were just... wow! Like any good twist it all seems obvious now, what with all the gaps in Murky's narration with regards to how he got to where he was in the beginning, his uncanny knowledge of the Ministry HQ layout, and the borderline "love at first sight" moment during Murky and Unity's "first" meeting. So definite points for managing to catch me by surprise with that one!
And finally on to the scene that absolutely everyone is thinking about. If the previous flight (okay, gliding) scene was the most impressive, exhilarating and heartbreaking scene of the story so far, then this flight/gliding scene was the most impressive, exhilarating and triumphant scene so far! The build up, the tension, the execution, the giddy laughter afterwords, that scene was seriously perfect in just about every way (made even better IMO by this piece that I just happened to have playing in the background at the time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZ0onmg56lg)! It really was the culmination of all of Murky's (and Unity's) trials and achievements up to this point.
So I don't really have much else to say, other then 'awesome chapter!' and my attempts at making empty internet threats at Fuzz to WORK FASTER!!

Re: Fallout Equestria: Murky Number Seven
God...so I started reading Murky Number Seven while I waited for other stories to update (silly me, I thought it was finished, but now I'm following 3 stories...), and I really like most of it. I'm only at chapter 15 though...and I'm getting pretty ticked at a lot of the stuff that keeps happening. Like when Murky specifically says, "Hey, I shouldn't do this because its gonna get me caught!" Then does it anyway and gets caught...or when he just stands there and does nothing for no reason (no one told him to stop or stand still, he can't claim indoctrination) AND gets caught again. Its just really weird stuff and stupid mistakes that I feel don't make any sense. I suppose a good part of my frustration is my own love of sort of sneaking around and such, but still. Murk's not an idiot, I don't understand how he can keep making the same mistakes over and over and over again...

Re: Fallout Equestria: Murky Number Seven
Obviously they don't, since he's able to hide in drainage workshops, rubbish piles, and old ruins, but all that had nothing to do at all with what I'm talking about. When he's sneaking around, like when he was a fugitive, he keeps making mistakes that he's learned from before. Especially when it comes doing sneaking from point A to point B, he goes from skilled and mildly experienced to suddenly having seemingly no experience, making mistakes that he's already made and learned from.
