I'm not saying I make it a competition, but it's really satisfying to just look back and see how much better I am than them.

I don't even have an account. I did once, briefly, back in undergrad, when I was told it was required for something, but it ended up never actually being used. I cancelled it as soon as it became clear that no, it wasn't actually required at all.

Though usually it ends up being a case of me becoming increasingly depressed about how much better they turned out. It's like going on DeviantArt to post something and then finding someone ridiculously talented and then going to eat Ben & Jerry's while lying on the couch and watching Amish Mafia for several hours.

I really only use it to talk to a few real-life friends back home in Cincinnati, and for following a few pages I actually like (like Ranger Up, for both their hilarious military-based memes and the sales they advertise) It's just that, when you see an old friend/rival/hated foe in the "recommended whatevers" list, curiosity takes over a bit.swicked wrote:I really, really don't like facebook.Mister Frost wrote:As a side note, when one stumbles upon an old rival/jackass's Facebook page.....

I check the site maybe one a week or two and then go back to not caring about other peoples' lives.
If I want to know what someone's up to, I just talk to them. I just can't get into this e-stalking mindset.

I suppose I'm usually in the opposite role, then. I mean, it's hard not to be encouraged when you see that while you've been fulfilling your dreams and goals (and overcoming significant hardship in the process) they're still in their little hometown, except now that gangly jackass is a little preacher boy, still obviously in the closet with the white-headed little shrimp who's not even gotten a job, by all appearances, and that weirdo that thinks being "crazy" is edgy and that talking about impractical and inefficient ways to murder people makes him hardcore--well, he's still fat.Scienza wrote:Yes.Mister Frost wrote:As a side note, when one stumbles upon an old rival/jackass's Facebook page.....

It's not jealousy, per se. It's just fuel for my superiority complex.swicked wrote:The only "friends" I have on there are a couple real life friends and family. I still don't care.
I don't remember ever having any rivals and I just don't care how anyone I've ever known is doing compared to me. They might very well be doing better, be richer, be happier... but I just can't get into that jealous mindset. I'm all but incapable of feeling regret, besides.
I figure it's just another weird little thing about being me.

Plus, I just witnessed one of them trying to defend the viewpoint that the First Amendment's Separation and Establishment clauses do not, in fact, prevent the United States from being considered a "Christian nation" because that's what his preacher said, even as his debate partner directly quoted said Amendment and provided links to government-provided sites to source the text. Christians are by no means inherently unintelligent (case in point being Swicked, who's unintelligent for entirely different reasons) but Fundamentalists are, by the nature and tenants of their belief system, intolerant and ignorant of both the laws that govern them (and us) and their own holy book (most having never read it).
These are the sort of people that say true joy and happiness in life can only come with living in the kindness and faith and virtues trust in God and whatnot, which is patently false--I've devolved into a porn-binging, heavily-smoking, foul-mouthed sarcastic tongue-lasher who takes glee in insulting and alienating my friends and family, and I've never been happier.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I liked this. However! I think that ending with the nuking of Japan has the potential to be a great twist ending if executed well. You have the secondary villains, the Japanese, refusing to surrender despite their Big Bad Boss Germany having been steamrolled, and then the guys who've been the show's moral center from the start of the season unleash the most destructive force the world has ever, and will ever, see against them, thus beautifully setting up the arc for the next season and complicating the easy narrative of straightforward Evil Murder-Loving Death Scientists versus Good Peace-Loving Brave Warriors to which the whole season seems to have been building up. Sure, you'd need some clues for the clever audience (and they'd be little tips o' the hat for anyone who'd read the books first), but I think that'd really bring things together nicely while opening up the Cold War arc of the next couple seasons.stringtheory wrote:If WW2 was a fictional story it wouldn't be very good.

Of course all you plebs would think that the remake was good. WWI was such a better show.

There was a disappointing lack of Sergeant Stubby in the second season.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Part of the reason why the second series sucks so much is that it's blatantly ripping off so many other works. Seriously, the entire "Normandy" episode is copied shot for shot from Saving Private Ryan. I'm not even joking, everything down to the uniforms is the same.Last wrote:Scienza wrote:Of course, all you plebs would think that the remake was good. WWI was such a better show.

And don't even mention the ridiculous technology the Germans were bringing--it was like something out of a cartoon. Seriously, the rest of the world has propeller-driven aircraft and your boys are rolling out in experimental jet fighters? Get real.
