I've been waiting for it for over a year. It's been worth the wait so far.

Of course It's great, I get to play as a Bird that has Egyptian based culture. In space.

I figured they were based more on ancient Meso- and Latin American cultures than Egypt.

Same. I think they're supposed to be based on Aztec culture.Aonee wrote:I figured they were based more on ancient Meso- and Latin American cultures than Egypt.
But I'm not entirely sure, because I play Floran. Carnivore plants are best plant species.

I played as the Hyotl first, then an Avian. The bird's my favorite so far, but I'll probably try Floran on my next character.

True, true. But will they still be as cool when they release the A.D.D. Star Cowboys?

Re: Starbound Discussion
I've enjoyed Starbound since a friend bought a four-pack, but I haven't played much of it. Got kinda boring, and I started playing other stuff.
I play as one of the robot people. The ones with the medieval theme that's kinda neat.

Avians will always have my heart...
But I'll be damned if I don't at least have a couple characters that are ENERGY COWBOYS.

It's more like a sequel since the developers of Terraria are the ones who made Starbound.
Least I'm sure they did, somebody back me up on that.

Re: Starbound Discussion
Only one, Tiyuri, worked on Terraria. But yea, take the idea of Terraria, put it in space with over a quadrillion planets to visit, and a ton of other content. For instance, just in this recent patch they added in skyrails like in Bioshock:Infinite because someone made that as a mod and the devs thought it was cool enough to put in officially.Last wrote:Moodyman90 wrote:It's more like a sequel since the developers of Terraria are the ones who made Starbound.

Avians are best race. Feathers and an Aztec-like culture? Yes please.
So good that I bought the game about nine different times. Christmas presents for many people. Now I just need to find a reliable server to conquer.

This game is freaking awesome!
I play as a Floran, but I might make a Novakid when they are available.

Honestly, I am thinking about renting a dedicated server of some sort. I just need to figure out how it all works though. Might be better to wait until the game is in the next beta stage and our characters aren't at a s much of risk of being wiped.

The Avians? Ugh when I saw them I was reminded of that damn duck movie.

Re: Starbound Discussion
For a dedicated server, you really only need two things: A good internet connection, and a spare PC you can leave on 24/7. Then just run the server client on it and there ya go.

God I love Betas.
Thank you so much for deleting my saved home planet, so I can never find it again.
It contains all of my crafting equipment, all of my collected supplies, and of course my garden and tree farm.Â

Oh don't worry, it's possible that said planet is now merely an asteroid field. Seriously though, we're more in alpha stage the way things are right now. If you don't want anymore wipes then wait till stage 2 of the beta.

And Aonee, I am aware, I just don't have any spare PCs lying around. Perhaps when I get a new one this current one will be relegated to that.

Re: Starbound Discussion
I have many, many complaints about Starbound, and some worries that the devs don't actually know what they're doing (the fact that armor penetration ever saw the light of day...), but I still enjoy playing it and look forward to each update. Hopefully, even if the final product still is mediocre, there will be many mods to fix it - like with a Bethesda release. =P

Re: Starbound Discussion
Hey, I actually kind of liked the armor pen system. It probably would've beena lot better if they ever actually explained it. Still, the fact of how fast they changed it,and how quickly and willingly they take mods and make thema part of the game, is more than enough for me to trust them.

Re: Starbound Discussion
@ArPen
For my part, I really, really didn't like the armor pen system, mostly because it was really just an arbitrary difficulty curve based entirely around having or not having big enough numbers to explode the enemies' numbers without getting exploded first. Even if it had been tuned to functionality (AKA not the "you either one-shot the enemy, or are one-shotted" that it was on early release), I really am not a fan of that style of gameplay, especially when it's so shoddily hammered in. "Oh, the monsters on every planet in this sector are naturally more resistant to bullets and instantly will cleave through any armor but gold armor! They look exactly like all the rest, and behave exactly like all the rest, but still!" It's like... early planets have normal rabbits on them. Later planets have this guy. The only difference between the two is that one has bigger numbers. I'm okay with bad guys having bigger numbers that prevent you from just abusing OP skills to skip on through the game, but consider games like Rogue Legacy, which did this much better. Enemies in harder areas were not just immensely strong, but a lot harder to deal with - faster, spammier, more explosive, bigger, smarter. Progress required more than bigger numbers, it required more skill, and mastery of new skills.
If they had an actual armor pen system, with different weapon types penetrating armor differently and different enemies having different armor levels depending on what kind of enemy they were and where you're hitting them, and shields being piercable and the like, and maybe some weapons having bonus damage against enemies with low armor, and maybe plasma guns could shred enemy armor... THAT would be cool. But that's not what their system was. Their new one is kinda oversimple IMO and way less interesting than their early combat ideas. Hopefully they're still planning on introducing lots of new features on that front.
EDIT: I want to stress how much I love the writing for this game, though, and the style (apart from the monster randomizer's bits, which are kind of unimpressive). I am happy to play it just to have a character examine literally everything that can be examined.

Re: Starbound Discussion
So I got a commission done of my Starbound character, Alyx Frostwing. I think it turned out pretty damn well. The image is a link to the DA page of the drawing.

I have to agree. It looks pretty good. I'm thinking about getting a commission of all my characters I've had that were wiped once Starbound comes out in full.
