Although "50-foot clone that was once on our side but turned evil" would make a pretty epic Final Boss. Which can only lead us to presume that Britain is the main character of a metroidvania-style action game, where it and a scant few comedic relief characters (Sweden) allies (Australia) and helpless princesses (France) must fend off various threats to the world, from the Nazis to the Communists, while also facing their own dark past as an Empire. At the climax, Britain is forced to fight the greatest of its own creations--a massive, industrialized monster that was once the weakest of its colonies--that has fallen to the darkness.Tytan wrote:But are you factoring in land size? This kind of stuff has crossed my own mind as well in the past, except my almost exact thoughts were "Holy shit, we work fast."Tytan wrote:I've just had a curious thought. I realize there are some inconsistencies, but bear with me.
Most civilizations start with savages living in mud huts and takes them about a thousand years to get to the point that we consider civilized. America is unique in that it was colonized by an already civilized nation and almost completely skipped the huts phase. Our culture is very similar to our father countries with some very key differences. That's when I came to the realization that...

As fast as the F/A-18 it's based on, I'd say ?
And as the guys behind the French Rafale said : in this day and age, how fast a plane goes doesn't matter when the missiles start flying. What matters is how maneuverable the plane is to engage in evasive maneuvers, and the electronics you have on board that allow you to detect that a missile has been fired in the first place, know where it is relative to you and how fast it goes, and the active and passive counter-measures that can allow you to make this missile miss you.
In fact, in the case of the Rafale, it only goes at Mach 1.8, but on the other hand it has been optimized in such a way that it can maintain a much slower speed than previous aircrafts without stalling, to make it able to loiter over areas if necessary (eg. : ground attack operation), increasing the time during which it is operating over the combat area and available to the troops if they need a backup.
The airframe has also been aerodynamically optimized to increase maneuverability. Take the Russian Mig-25 : it was able to go REALLY fast and fly really high, but it was also as maneuverable as a rocket.
Plus, you already have the F-22 for air-superiority missions. Not every warplanes need to be able to be that superlative.

Seriously, I think the F-35 JSF is the new Bradley IFV in term of being a poster-child for the systemic failures of the US Military-Industrial Complex, and its R&D sector.
I mean, I think at this point the JSF program has already cost more than the whole Apollo program, even counting inflation, and IIRC not even a single one F-35 has entered service yet.

Apollo Program cost (in 2005 USD) : ~US$170 billion
JSF Program cost (in 2005 USD) : Initial R&D => US$40 billion ; estimated cost for the planned purchase of 2,400 units (US alone) => US$200 billion

A thing about that Watch_Dogs game : the fact other players can "seamlessly get into your game" seems to suggest to me it's going to be an Always Online title.
I just hope they won't fuck it as badly as EA did with Sim City..

On the other hand, we occasionally get phenomenal craft like the A-10. Probably the best ground-attack aircraft around.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
The irony of all this military spending is that when you factor in population booms, increase in the number of countries in the world and such it is nowadays less likely for a country to go to war than it was back in the day.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Apollo Program cost (in 2005 USD) : ~US$170 billion
JSF Program cost (in 2005 USD) : Initial R&D => US$40 billion ; estimated cost for the planned purchase of 2,400 units (US alone) => US$200 billion
What I mean by this statement is, let's say there's two countries of relatively equal population that are enemies that have gone to war with each other in the past and have a long history of going to war in the past and both countries over the last few centuries have kept a relatively same population over that long period, the periods of peace inbetween the countries going to war with each other is increasing over time.
The reason why this is relavant to this discussion is I think politicians are full of hot air nowadays and the F35 in the long run is going to be a huge waste of money cause I don't think we will go to war with Russia, or China, or North Korea, or Iran, or such for a very long time from now cause most of the people drumming for war are full of it.
The F35 is probably a massive waste of money cause chances are we won't see another big war where we'll actually need the F35 before the fighter becomes obsolete technologically cause for all the talks of going to war with china or russia or iran or north korea most politicians are just blowing hot air.
Tl:dr; the F35 is probably a waste of money cause politicians that rally for a war with China and say there's a war with them right around the corner are full of shit cause chances are if we do go to war with china it will probably be decades down the line and by then the F35 will be severly obsolete.
They really do need to bring back the A-10, or at least make a new version of the A-10.Mister Frost wrote:On the other hand, we occasionally get phenomenal craft like the A-10. Probably the best ground-attack aircraft around.

I believe it might be optional or turn on/off option. Since I can guarantee, that other players will screw your gameplay hard.Harmony Ltd. wrote:A thing about that Watch_Dogs game : the fact other players can "seamlessly get into your game" seems to suggest to me it's going to be an Always Online title.
