Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
Funnily enough, one of the most irritating things in World of Tanks at the moment are War Thunder fanboys, who come into discussions about the game wherever possible and try to derail it by 'hurr your game is shit, WT ground forces is so much better lol'.
The thing is, WT ground forces isn't even out yet. It may turn out to be almost entirely unplayable garbage when it comes out (unlikely, but possible) so it's counting chickens before they're hatched.
It's also sidestepping the main issue that WT and WoT are entirely different games with entirely different aims and likely much different gameplay, so it'll be entirely personal choice on which system you like more, if not both equally.

War Thunder tends to be much less rage-inducing than World of Tanks, at least at first when you don't know about the 30mm cannon.
Finally rebought the Pz III/IV, and cannot for the life of me remember why in hell I sold it. Decent armor, excellent speed, good gun, even can outrun the light tanks. Enemy scouts usually aren't prepared to fight it, and if god save them if I can get behind their lines.

Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
So with the remainder of the gold that Hawkeye so amazingly gifted a while back, I picked up the Excelsior for 750g while it was on sale.
Mein Gott.
This is based on only 12 games but...I...I think I have a new favourite tank.
It plays something like a very bulky medium more than a heavy. My largest concern (31mm on sides) actually matters very very little as generally it is a very aggressive and proactive tank. They shoot the side you're pointing at them. ie - Your front, as you rush their face head on at 40kph in a tank weighing 42 tons...in tier 3-6 games.
Two games ago, I met a T1 Heavy coming out of a side street at max speed, I ploughed him off the street. Half his health gone in a blink and then two 75mm shots to his immobile flank to finish him off.
The game after that, I ended up amongst a group of 5 tier 4 tanks and just went on a complete roflstomp using the heavy frontal armour and excellent gun depression in tandem to just hop from tank to tank, murdering them utterly at every turn. The "weak" gun really isn't a massive issue in a tank thats this mobile and able to take a little fire to let you get those flank shots. It has tanks it has to watch out for (KV-1 = Death) but it can nicely outrun anything it cannot outfight thus far I am finding.
It just feels like an excellent fluid tank, able to respond, change plan and bring a surprising weight of a heavy tank along with medium pushes...or in lower tier games can simply LEEROOOOOY its way through their lines.
This tank is a ton of fun. When you can quite happily ram tier 5 heavies to death short of a KV-1 then something is very very right.

I still can't get the hang of the thing, and I hate that gun.
Skygunner told me to play it like a medium, but I still don't get it. It's a shame, it's statistically the best performing tier 5 heavy right now, and I'll definitely be seeing more use from it if/when WG adds the Chieftain.

Well, my WoT career has been dramatically put on hold.
I developed a mild case of broken arm when I crashed my bike in a pothole in the arse end of nowhere.
I'll struggle through CW (I want that faiLowe damnit!), but otherwise, nope.
EDIT: The arse end of nowhere is conveniently just on the other side of a hill to a major hospital, so I was fortunate.

.....
I've finally found out where all my SSD space had went.
WoT and WoWP keep all the files from the updates they download. Which, in my case, included the whole compressed game. I've just freed 12Gb.
I feel like I'm not very smart.

/game folder/Updates
Probably only if you've installed using the downloaded launcher, or had the game installed for a long time (like, several big updates)

I see them, some even register as torrent files, interestingly. I've got about 5GB in there. Just to be certain, what ones are safe to delete?
I've been doing a mass clear out anyway, looking to get more mileage.

Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
Holy Moley I have over 20gb in there! That's insane!
Also some register as torrents because that's how some of the patches are sent- the launcher acts like a torrent client. Even tells you sometimes. at the beginning of a big update.
I know EVE also used to sometimes send patches as torrents as well as direct downloads. They were a lot more reliable on patch day than the direct file.
My hard drive is really cluttered. Seriously tempted just buy a 4TB hard disk and be done with it.
In other news, playing random battles with one hand is a baaad idea. Especially when you boot up xvm stat and see you're often the best player on the team and expected to carry (I'm not even that good, honest!). Being either able to move or shoot/look around is nasty, with TDs especially so because they start to turn their hulls at what you're looking at.
Makes driving other tanks feel more gritty, tense and realistic though.
In CW it's not so bad- positioning is everything and you rarely have to react to threats from different directions really quickly, so with a good fc you can still do well (MAN MODE: get sent through the city on Ensk alone to flank the whole enemy team. Bonus points for setting the arty on fire with your last shot and watching him burn to death after you've been blown up).

Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
Allegedly we'll be getting the full 8.10 preview tomorrow.
Japanese tanks, a new Soviet Tier 9 or 10 tank (I've heard conflicting reports) and...that's about it as far as I've heard. No new premium tanks known. I'd love them to surprise spring the A6 Medium though...

I don't think the gift tanks show up on the test server. I get the feeling the A6 will be first seen on Christmas day itself. That's when the last christmas gift appeared. At least the A6 will have a proven gun on it.
EDIT: I think the preview is up but there's no picture of the A6
http://worldoftanks.asia/en/news/23/update-8-10-japan-takes-center-stage/
Also apparently the Japanese tanks will be changed from unmentionable-brown to Willow Green, which looks much better.

Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
I think it's more likely we'll see the Light Mk6 as the Christmas gift, given it's a little light tank like...well...every other gift. Tetrarch, T7 Combat Car, LTP, M3 Light (not technically gift) and T1E6. Fits the pattern.hawkeye92 wrote:I don't think the gift tanks show up on the test server. I made a mistake in my last post though. It's not the A6 Medium (Which is just the designation for the Medium MkIII) but the A7 Medium that should be coming hopefully soon.
I really want it. A cheap as chips premium tank to train my medium crews in and have some ramhappy fun at tier 2. Yes please.

Oops I've been getting confused again with my tanks. But yes I wouls also like a tier two ram tank... Although it would be hit or miss with the T18's rolling around.
It's also worth noting tier two premiums won't train your crews very quickly. In perspective I've played nearly 200 games with my valentine II, a tier 4 premium, and they've only got to 90% on their first crew skills trained. That gets a lot more xp per battle too. Without switching crews, none of my T2 premiums have got to 100% on their basic qualification yet.
So it'll be fun, but proper training would be a real grind.

Loooooooooooooooool.
And after all the damn hype, I wish they'd been selling the Type 59 for Cyber Monday or something.
Seriously, you Russian bastards want money when it comes down to it. I guarantee you, there's no way to grab money faster than a one day sale of a universally wanted tank that's no longer available on the store and many people will never see in their garage, no matter how goddamn hard they try in the competitions.

Type 59 was the prize for the 1st place in the tank mastery challenges. No way they'll just put it up for sale.

I'm glad it isn't up for sale, it'd imbalance the MM a lot like it did before, plus, to my recollection, they dominated the tier. But the Centurion and the T28 have a decent chance to penetrate most of its armour, unlike the T32 or Pershing, so it may be bearable...

This was one of these times when you want to shout "I'VE GOT BALLS OF STEEL!" and spam the combat results everywhere.
...and I'd only bothered to check if I could have a replay after it had ended. Of course, the recording is disabled by default.
