And, in the middle of the song, Applejack yanks Vinyl's glasses right off, and suddenly she smiles as if she's seeing for the first time.
This, folks, is the logical conclusion of those pictures parents post of their babies in sunglasses because they're "cute". Vinyl's parents left those glasses on for the rest of her life, and now, for the first time, Vinyl is realizing that she actually sees better with them off.

When we see Rainbow, she is carrying Scootaloo on her back as she flies
when we next see her, she is empty-handed and descending from the ceiling
Like a mother eagle, she has clearly dropped Scootaloo, leaving her to die or fly and completely forgetting that the latter lacks wings.

And the best thing to do when someone attacks you is to pull your friends in as human shields. Even if "Magic" doesn't save you, their bodies will.
Princess Celestia, today I learned that everyone in the universe is entirely replaceable and interchangeable with any other world, robbing every single universe of any significance or meaning. Free will is an illusion, our lives are to always be guided by six emotionally unstable little girls
"In conclusion, every waking moment is a new prison and the only release is a sweet, blessed death that you cannot even choose for yourself.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
- Thoughts on MLPFIMEG; Spoilers:
Okay! Finished. Definitely glad I waited for a rip, rather than a cam. I can't stand cams.
Well, it was... all right. I wouldn't say it was brilliant, but I wasn't expecting it to be. And it WAS significantly funnier than I'd anticipated, at least towards the beginning. Ultimately, though, there just wasn't much relevant to my interests. World-building wasn't actively sabotaged - in fact, there are some interesting possible conclusions to be drawn about the mirror world - but it was explored too little for my tastes. The drama was less than many of the episodes have managed to pull off (Party of One and Hurricane Fluttershy come to mind, off the top of my head). The animation was... sometimes good, sometimes not.
Songs were not my cup of tea, but, again, I did not expect them to be, especially seeing as I'm on a sludge/doom kick. Bouncy, upbeat, and generally peppy were not what I was looking for today. Still... there were no Winter Wrap-Ups here. To me, they felt pop-y-er and less risky than previous works, but you guys know me and my musical tastes.
The metaphors about authority and legitimacy were actually pulled off reasonably well, especially for a kid's movie! I was favorably impressed by how subtly they were done, especially considering that the world of ponies is one where some ideologies, interpersonal relationships, and beliefs are actual embodiments of potent, primordial magics. More than anything else, I wish this had been focused on more - Twilight learning what it means to be a leader, about deserving power and control versus taking it, things like that. It would have had to be a longer movie to accommodate this, though, even if they did just cut the silly Flash Sentry scenes. I would also have liked to see Twilight fail at this initially.
I would have liked to see Sunset Shimmer without cronies. I would have liked to see a lot more of her character, with more than just the one note, in fact. I wanted her to be a dominating personality, a self-motivated and strong-willed character who truly believed she deserved respect and power for her abilities - respect and power that she felt denied, probably by Celestia. I wanted her to be driven not by revenge, but by a deep desire to show her old mentor (and the world) (and herself) that she was worthy. Instead... well, she didn't really have much of a character. She wanted control, but we never really learned why. Perhaps she wanted to be accepted? That would explain some things about her agony at seeing the main characters' friendship prevail, if she saw much of herself in Twilight. I wanted more scenes of her and Twilight, too. I dunno, I feel like there's a lot of cool things that could have been done with Sunset - hell, just make her charismatic! - that weren't done and that there wasn't time for. When you compare her to villains like Discord, who are just plain likable while still being serious threats, and who clearly have some intense backstories to them (though, in fairness, those haven't really been revealed yet, either), she comes away feeling lacking. Furthermore, the kind of backstory that makes a character so driven to be in control tends to be pretty feel-bad, which is not something this movie was interested in doing. (Sunset Shimmer's themesong, in my headcanon, is A Season In The Sky - "I need something to cut into, so that my god can see me again.") Oh, man, Celestia, Sunset, and Luna could make for a very interesting bit of characterization on CELESTIA - she drives away the ponies she loves by expecting them to be selfless and duty-bound (perhaps she is like that, and simply doesn't understand how much of a burden it can be for others, especially when it goes unappreciated). Eventually, perhaps Twilight will find herself in a similar situation. I dunno. Conflict! Surely, the relationship between Twilight and Celestia must change somewhat, moving forward, after all. It is more complicated than faithful student and beloved teacher, now.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The comics are covering Sunset Shimmer, I just remembered. THIS I am VERY excited for.
World-building was lacking. I definitely got the feeling that Canterlot High was a pocket dimension rather than an entirely different reality - a mirror is the most direct metaphor for the world itself, not just the portal to it. Equestria is clearly the Prime world, with the mirror-universe being a sort of growth off it. The fact that the main characters went all ponyish suggests this to me, among other things. The reason for its existence interests me, too - I for one want to say that the mirror is an artifact from the Time of Discord, which is the name I just made up for when Discord reigned supreme, possibly created by Luna to seal off the world without destroying it while cleaning up Discord's mess (the world itself would have been created by Discord). At any rate, left to its own devices, the mirror-world seems to mirror the Prime world very closely, with relatively subtle differences beyond the base "ponies-are-people" stuff - this is not a world that just co-evolved along similar lines with Prime, but one that seems to be taking cues from it. However, it is worth noting that A) human!Twilight never met up with the rest of the Main 5, and B) human!Luna's not in the moon, or... Guam, or something. All this stuff is interesting, to me at least, but it's not explained or talked about. The mirror exists, and it only works once a month or so. /shrug Again, there wouldn't have been time for this stuff, anyway.
Sunset's plan to use mind-controlled teens to take over some corner of Equestria seems... strange, at first. However! Consider that they would be ponies on the other side of the portal. Clones of actual, existing ponies, too. This would, at the very least, complicate things. To be perfectly honest, I think she'd be better off holding their safety hostage as a bargaining chip with Celestia to get... whatever it is she wants, but that'd be REALLY dark. I mean, what kind of children's show would have something like... oh, what's that? Doctor Who, season 2, did it? Well. =P In fairness, the BBC's "children's" and "family" shows can be friggin' BRUTAL and intense. I just finished S1 of Merlin, and while the CGI was cringeworthy, some of the more high concept stuff was actually very impressive. Anyway, again, this sort of comes down to what Sunset's motives are - what does she need an army for?
For once, Spike was actually the highlight of a lot of scenes. Well done on that.
Flash! Honestly, whatever. So Twilight has a crush - good on her, I guess! He had very little characterization, which makes me think this was just introducing the theme of awkward romance rather than an actual plot they were interested in. I wouldn't mind development on it, but I wouldn't mind never hearing about him again, either. It'll probably be the latter, since romantic subplots are not something one tends to market to the target audience of the show.
Animation! Sync'd-up movements looked pretty bad, because the added detail/familiarity of the human form (as compared to the pony one) ended up emphasizing the paper-doll cutout style of the character models in MLPFIMEG. On the other hand, some of the sight gags were very funny (any body horror humor with Twilight made me crack up), and the production value was definitely high. When the characters ran, it didn't look great. Overall, I'm happier than I thought I was going to be with it.
There was missed potential for a parallel between the unification of the pony tribes and the unification of the cliques behind Twilight, but that's okay with me. It could easily have been stupid, and it would DEFINITELY have been a timesink to set up. Still, it did seem like they were going in that direction for a second or two when Flutters was talking about people sticking with their own.
So, yeah. It was an inoffensive film, made reasonably well, with some pretty funny moments and nothing that left me disgusted with the franchise or anything like that. It just... wasn't great. And I would have liked for it to have been great. Most of the things I wanted to see probably were impossible to do with for the audience they wanted and the time they were allotted, and might also have clashed with the style of the movie itself (it was a kinetic and bouncy film, not a let's-sit-around-being-intense-and-passionate kind of film), but I'd have liked to see them, anyway. I'm looking forward to the comic - if that's good enough, it alone could justify this film's existence.
Them's my thoughts on MLPFIMEG.

Brad is actually a CIA plant sent to keep an eye on her. His experience in Iraq is what kept him from being afraid of Twilight when she sprouted wings like a deformed freak

I've found something really interesting.
This is a liveblog on TVTropes which is basically a Let's Read for the original FoE. The author is a (very) caustic critic, but raises a lot of valid points.
Also interesting is some of the reactions to it. One other guy even started his own liveblog, which is an extremely drawn-out tongue-bathing of the original. And he is seriously creeping me out :/ from his other activities, it's like he's actively seeking out criticism of FoE in order to drown it out with his praise.
