Shayle nodded and looked back to Felix with a forced grin. "Sure." She walked over and the two stepped into the hall, quietly closing the door behind them.
"So...what's up?"

"It's...um..." Felix stopped and looked all around them to be sure nobody was around to hear them. "...It's about the palace...what we did."

Shayle's ears flattened on her head as she sat down. "Oh..."

"If you don't want to talk I can come back la-" Felix started to say before Shayle cut him off.

"No, it's fine. We need to eventually," she told him quietly. The mare stared at the ground for a few seconds, not exactly sure what to say to her brother about what she did. "I..I'm sorry Felix. I shouldn't have made you do that," she finally said, her voice dripping with shame. "I just...you're so happy with Neon, and your friends, and I didn't want that to go away." She sniffled softly and lifted her eyes to his. "I didn't want you to die."

"I know Sis...but..." tears began to form in the colt's eyes as he spoke, and he fought to keep them back. "You shouldn't have done that. I am happy with Neon, but you've already had enough happen to you...with Dad and all," he explained with a sniffle. "I didn't want to do what he did to you...even if it meant seeing Neon again. I love him, but you're still my sister...and I would...I would have chosen to die with you and me both happy...even if it meant never seeing him again."

"Felix," Shayle placed a hoof gently on his shoulder. "I am happy. You're alive, and you're happy with a buck you love. How could I ever be sad about that?" Her eyes clouded as she spoke. "You didn't do what Father did...if anything I was the one that forced it on you. And I'm so sorry for making you do that."

Felix frowned and his head fell into Shayle's shoulder as the tears broke through, finally falling down his face and into her coat. "Why can't you just be happy for you?" he asked in a muffled voice. "You have to be happy too, not just me."

Shayle wrapped a hoof around her brother as he sobbed into her, gently rubbing a hoof on his back. "I...I am," she told him softly. "I wasn't before...but I've got Buckler now. I like him, and he makes me happy..." she explained, trying to calm him down.

"But that was after," Felix argued, pushing back from her and staring at his sister with puffy eyes. "Why did you put my needs above yours in the palace?"

"Because, you're my little brother," Shayle told him with a grin. "I just want you to be happy, and I can be happy after."

Felix considered protesting, but he knew he wouldn't get anywhere. He was pissed with her for saying that, like she didn't deserve to be happy unless everyone else was first. If either of them did, it was her in his eyes. She'd had the bad foalhood, she'd been the one to be tormented while he played and laughed with friends at school, and she was the one that had been violated for years. He had always been at least a little happy, but she still insisted he deserved it first! She was...

The colt threw his hooves around Shayle and pulled her in tight, never wanting to let go and let her get hurt again. "I love you Sis..." he whispered.

She returned the hug and smiled as she nuzzled his head. "I love you too Felix."
