I couldn't use live test subjects so I used the next best thing. I didn't know Equestria had a name for them until a few days ago, but we've had ghouls for centuries. Every now and then someone will get stuck outside during a radiation storm. Oftentimes they die, sometimes they refuse to die. At first we attempted to rehabilitate them but they invariably became hostile and try to attack. For a while we simply disposed of them. Then when my need came along they were given to me. They still had something resembling a soul, so I experimented on them."

"Often times they did. They don't have much of a soul left to experiment on.

Now I told you all that so I could tell you this. My Uncle had been experimenting long before I was born, and he isn't burdened by ethics. I have no proof of what he's done, but I remember what he did to me.

When I was young I exhibited a great deal of magical potential, I received special schooling to develop my talents. I even had private lessons with my Uncle. Until fairly recently I had no memory of these lessons. He took me to his personal lab and used me to experiment on live ponies. I didn't understand at the time but he was having me tear out pieces of their souls...

Every single one of them died.

My reward was a hoofful of sugar laced with amnesiacs.

As I grew older I resisted more and more, flat out refusing to participate. He'd threaten me, my mother, use electroshock to get me to do what he wanted.

At some point I guess I became to much of a problem for him to deal with. He stopped using me and let the amnesiacs deal with any memory I might have had of his experiments."

"An... unfortunate side effect. I thought I had the problem with the elders pegged down. I was wrong.

I broke my own soul, and in turn my mind. I was found on the floor of my lab drooling. I spent well over a year in the clinic while the doctors attempted to put me back together. When they were done I was high functioning, but not entirely fixed. I was still split between three other personalities. An aristocrat, myself as a filly, and... and... a nymphomaniac."

He stared at her for a while then shook her head.
"Well those sound like... interesting personalities.
So these changes just happen?
You mentioned earlier that you switched once because you ate wasabi"

"I've been in more control lately, but I can still hear them, whispering.

And yes, Rogue had me try some wasabi while we were at the princess' palace. It wasn't so much switching as I was in so much pain no one personality wanted to take control."
