So...my story... *takes a long pull of Moonshine*

I grew up in some little town out in the Wasteland. Name's not important. Not anymore....
My uncle raised me because, surprise surprise, my parents died when I was just a foal. I quickly learned I had a talent for working with machinery, and spent most of my time in the town workshop, doing...whatever. Repairs, metalwork, building, other stuff. Didn't ever have many friends in my foalhood except for a couple colts and this one filly named Obsidian Hope. I mostly stayed to myself and my work.

*sigh* Anyways...this one day, about a couple years back, the place was suddenly attacked by Slavers. The town was big enough to take care of the occasional pack of bandits and ruffians, but not an all-out assault like what happened. It was mass hysteria. Ponies dying everywhere. At least, anyone who stood up to them. Those who were too weak to run, to stand up for themselves, or were just plain unlucky enough, were rounded up and hauled away.

I was holed up in the workshop as usual at the time. I think that's the only reason why they never had the chance to find me.
Because I ran. I nabbed what I could and I ran the hell out of there was fast as my four legs would carry me. But I'll never forget what I saw - that look of terror on Hope's face as she was bound, screaming, and taken with the others.
But still I ran like a fucking coward.

*RRRRgghh*...FUCK! Those bastards! Why did they do that?!? How could somepony do that to another pony?!?!*throws glass at wall*

((Pause for dramatic effect.))

It's the ones who aren't that you need to focus on.

Or, more accurately, aren't fucked up as badly.

Fuckin' slaver. No better then crazed raiders half the time. Always hated having to deal with them, luckily whenever a caravan I was with did I wasn't on negotiation or guard duty.
*smirks a little*
But that was only with caravans that had a deal of not being attacked, which gave me free range to walk around and "accidentally" drop a screw driver and bobby pins near some of them. Every now and then we'd get news of how those groups had to suffer due to "not meeting quota" or breaking promises.

Slavers...Lower then scum if ya'ask. Raiders at least have the excuse that they ain't in their right minds if they ever had one to begin with, but slavers, that's whole different bushel of apples, they can think straight and still decide to capture and torture other ponies just for a couple pieces o'pressed metal. Up in Flankorage we used ta' go out our way to put an end to those sons a bitches.
*pats Bastions shoulder*

Or maybe everyponies stories are fucked, and we're not so unique after all.

*sigh* Thanks guys, But that's just the thing - I don't know where she is...I'll get to why in a moment...

Anyways, I ran till I was exhausted and eventually wound up at some abandoned mining facility. Needless to say, I wasn't happy with what I had done. *wistful look*

But I decided that maybe, just maybe, there was still something that I could do about it. Thank the goddesses I wound up where I did - there was plenty of equipment left around for me to work with. After some long hours of work (and some tweaking of available resources that would give MacNeighver a run for his money), I managed to craft together a self-propelled, offroad-capable carriage. For the moment, it was at least a means of getting back to the town in a hurry. I felt maybe there was still a way I could rescue them.

*sigh*...When I got back to the town, though, there was barely anything left - the whole place had been burned to the ground. Not much left but charred wood and metal scraps. By pure chance though, I ran into an old friend of my uncle's, a pegasus Dashite by the name of Archangel (he saw the smoke while passing by). He stuck with me, and helped me with my plan (if it could be called that). We found some weapons in the town wreckage, and I affixed them to the carriage.

We figured the best way to get them would be to follow their tracks and wait till nightfall. It was a long shot, though.

Of course, it didn't work out as planned.

Eeyup, once we get through tomorrow we'll go slaver huntin'. Finding them shouldn't be too hard, and once we do it's just a little bit of questioning later to find out where she is.
*walks over to where the extra armor is at*
I'm probably going to need some. Which set do ya'll think I should us?
*stops and turns back to Bastion as he continues his story*

I recommend the Mk 7 reinforced combat armor there *points at armor on the far right*
It's comfortable, light enough for ya' to move quickly, and it lasts.

This is the same set I've been wearin' since I was part of Specters. So trust me when I say it lasts. If your lookin' for somethin' a bit lighter Mk 6 works just as well *points to set on the far left.*

Nightfall came, and Archangel flew in silently and managed to take out a few guards, so I was able to sneak in. But right about after breaking out the first group, everything went to hell, and that's about all we could make away with, lest we become full of holes. *Argh*...I did the best I could...I was one of the few unicorns in the town that was able to use some sort of shield magic, but that doesn't mean squat when you've got multiple Slavers firing in your direction...I protected as many as I could while piling the townsfolk into the carriage, but I couldn't keep the shield up and pilot it at the same time. Some stayed to hold them off, choosing to die rather than be enslaved. Others got shot as we drove off...

*sigh*...By Celestia's grace, Hope was in the group I made off with. She had been working with the town's medical station, and did her best to patch up the wounded. Even then, not everypony made it. She proposed that we head over to someplace safe, like Tenpony, and get help. It seemed like a good idea, and with my carriage, we could get there in decent time.

*takes another pull of moonshine* Along the way though, we were ambushed. We fought back, but it wasn't looking good. I and several others stayed behind to hold our attackers off while Hope, Archangel and the others got away. We won, but just barely. I was hit hard, those with me didn't fare as well, and the carriage got destroyed in the process. I limped my way to the nearest town and got healed up, but I haven't seen or heard heads or tails of those two since. I've been trying to find them, but haven't had much luck.

*takes another pull of Moonshine* I just hope they made it out okay and are doing fine, wherever they are...

But anyways, long story short, I eventually fell in with the ragtag bunch of crazyponies I now see before me, putting my skills to good use again. *smirks and looks at Moonshine bottle* I should probably put this away now, before something bad happens...

Ah, who am I kidding...I've probably already drunk too much to have the capability to anything tonight now...

((BTW, if that story rung any bells, this is why. I tweaked it quite a bit, though.))

At least you was able to save some lives, including Hope's. With any luck they did make it to Tenpony, even if it is out of the way for us to go and check. I'm sure she and Archangel are doing fine, waiting for the day ya'll meet up again.
And if those two *jesters to the general area Aonee and Crys should be in * can meet up in the great big wasteland I'm sure you'll see them again.

Brotherhood deserter? That explains why you're so go with that sciencey stuff. Granted compared to us that's not rough, but for as good as you had it to leave is rough. I imagine they wasn't happy when ya left and something bad must have happened for you to leave a group like that.
