My dad, who use to to drink nearly every day from the time he woke up till he went to bed before he finally quit drinking altogether, always said "You drink for the effect, not the flavor."
Make of that what you will.

Accurate description. I think I have to agree with Tytan. Aquired taste are a form of masochism. The outcome is essentially "I've tortured my taste buds enough that I can choke this down without making a face." to which my response is A+ you did it.
Not that I don't ocasionally drink cheap whiskey. But I don't fool myself.

Hm, can that artist draw anatomy any properly on a side note, or are they a clean artist?Valikdu wrote:I found bait.
- Spoiler:
@Last: 1: Actually, I tend to just go to new ones each time. At times I go to the same, but mostly due to not keeping track of every single one. This one I had gone to twice before, around 2+ months apart each. (and the third time, they claimed that no-one had ever complained on their art in any way in the history of ever, they had always drawn this amazing and flawless) That said, I don't know how many before me have complained on the same thing, so that could actually be a cause. That, or they're just spoiled brats that can't take any non-praise. Most of them tend to snap back in a tone similar to ex: If you point out their baby is vomiting blood, and they should really have it checked out, they hiss back telling you that "you're not it's parent" and "you can't tell them how to not neglect their child, it's how they parent", then goes back to drinking/gambling or whatever. Dunno what, but the net seems to somehow created this acidic/fear relations towards feedback. Many directly attack any non-positive things. And it's usually said people that are half assed and/or narrow minded.
2: Well, biggest problem is that most just say "you're doing it wrong", and refuse to say WHAT is wrong, even when repeatedly ask. They just give a vague "hiss" towards the direction of the noise. And I mix in positive parts in about all my feedback. I've read about psychology. (not great at it due to lack of empathy though) But they just generally ignore that, and interpret the critique as they want, then attempt to blow it out of proportion, or (poorly attempt to) deflect it. (then act like it was flawless)
And well... actually very mixed. I do both, it varies a lot on my mood. But in general, no matter which version, it's pretty much just the "open minded" people that respond well to it.
And to them in particular, I gave a good+bad review and described what and how they could improve. And they just gave a "hm... no, I'm perfect. My art is outstanding with no flaws." shrug to all of it. Just doing a "because I say so" reply to any issue brought up. But yes, they seem very stuck on the "eh, it works, cba to improve it" viewpoint. And I know it is far from the best way to convey things. And that I'm not very good at it... but eh... I try at least. And I've run into a ton of stuck up people. Like, one I pointed out they accidentally drew two left hands. They said I wasn't allowed/capable to critique them, because I couldn't drawn canine penis better than them, thus had no right to give them advice. As to them, only someone better at x than someone else could give tips on x to said person. That, and another that overead the conversation, and told me to stop trying to force my fetish onto people. (people really like using that piss poor excuse as some sort of argument. Heck, so far, 70-90 % of the times it's been used, it couldn't even be logically applied to the situation. Like now.)
And do not know about that show/thing.
@Tytan: (Aquired taste) Aye, find it quite retarded tbh. Like, it technically can make sense in some certain cases. But for most, it's just dumb as fak. On that regard, hate hypocrites about it. (aka: "it's okay to do for this specific thing, but FUCK THAT OTHER SPECIFIC THING!" or ones that insist that people HAVE to get used to x, but when it comes to y, that's equally "valid", they just go "eh", and lazily shove that "everyone is free to their own preference... except for x ofc, everyone has to learn to like that.")
@EP: Still would like a little help with suggestions regarding posting the fic to avoid confusion and altered responses. Also: Is everyone done with pokemans already?

Won't say I'm done with Pokemon, but ever since I picked up Kingdom Hearts 3D I've played Pokemon X a lot less.
But they've announced the remakes for the gen three games so by fall most of use would have picked it back up again if we dropped it for now.
Can't speak for everybody else though, just saying my current state as far as Pokemon is.

Personally I've done everything in it. I could train more pokemon, but the effort seems pointless as they just sit in the box.

Well yeah if you go for a mass produced industrial lager then piss water is an accurate description. It's beer in the same way Taco Bell is Mexican food. If you want good beer you have to go for micobrews. If you don't drink alcohol often the first thing you taste is the alcohol and it overpowers all the nuances. After you get used to the alcohol thats when you taste everything. You start tasting things like the banana and cloves in hefeweizen, the orange and coriander in witbier, or the toasty caramel of bock. It takes a bit of time, but after you get used to it it tastes great and goes with certain foods much better than water or soda.Tytan wrote:I don't even know what the hell it tastes like, but the only words I've ever heard used to describe it are 'full-bodied', 'fruity', and 'piss-water'.Downloaded Skill wrote:Tytan wrote:People like beer?swicked wrote:...so stuff like beer tastes good to people from the first taste?Tytan wrote:Acquired tastes are bullshit. Why would anyone endure the taste of piss and go out of their way to find a higher quality of piss that will still taste like piss until they drink enough piss? Maybe it's worthwhile after you've already been through it, but it's not an endeavor that water or tea forces you through. That sales pitch is a very difficult for me to buy.

What can I say other than its a Kingdom Hearts game? I've had a blast playing it till I reached the end game and now I either grind levels or hunt treasure/do the few mini-games it has. Which is what I do for every other Kingdom Hearts game I've played.

Trying alcohols a little bit. Went to Olive Garden last Sunday. Didn't like Mango Rum on the Rocks. Enjoyed Peach Bellini Cocktail. Thinking I'm going to be a fan of the 'girly' drinks. Too early to tell. Didn't feel any different, except maybe a minor headache after the rum. *shrugs*
@Moody
Excited for KHIII? Gonna get a PS4 when it comes out, but not any sooner. Don't see any games really worth it for the system that I can't already play on my PC.

Well other than flavor there are also social benefits and stress relief. From personal experience it is significantly easier to make friends or reinforce current relationships over a few beers. "Social lubricant" is not an exaggeration by any means. Given that a majority of the American population consumes alcohol on a regular basis I think it's a handy thing to be familiar with.Last wrote:Downloaded Skill wrote:

As for the flavor thing you could also make similar arguments against people who play Dota, League of Legends, or Dwarf Fortress. Why not have fun for 15 hours so you can have fun after you get used to it? Because it offers an experience that you can't get from most other games. Beer and wine are unique flavors and experiences that can't be understood just after a single or a few drinks.
If its not your thing it's not your thing. I paid my dues and I'm happier for it. That and the career I'm going into demands beer and wine knowledge. It is a pain in the neck to sell beverages that you don't understand and generic descriptions don't work on the savvier, high purchasing power customers.

I'm more than a little confused by this. Are you saying it gives you and someone else common ground? That's true of all hobbies. Or are you saying that easier to make friends with someone and repair grievances over a buzz. That's not the kind of person I'm interested in making friends with or anything further than that really. If we can only be comfortable with one another with a beer in our hands we're probably not suited for one another.
Also have you heard the old saying "If everyone was jumping off a bridge would you?" Numbers don't always justify your favorite passtime.
If I'm miss understanding feel free to try and explain to me further what you mean. I'm willing to listen if I'm being an idiot.

I'd argue that the game wasn't better, you were just more invested in it. Also the DOTA community from what I've heard is quite toxic. Maybe they're better than people say, but you'd probably do well to not associate the beer drinking community with them.

I can't say I'm as excited for it as I was Kingdom Hearts 2, but I am looking forward to it. Pretty much have the same idea as you as well, wait until KHIII comes out before getting a PS4. Hopefully there will be a price drop on the console or they release the newest version with twice the GB at the same price as the previous version.
That and I'm pretty sure inFAMOUS: Second Son will be at a lower price as well, which will give me two games to play unlike when I got my PS3 and the only game I saw worth while at the time and wasn't waiting for others was MGS4. I hear good things about Second Son, with the main complaints being while the new powers are cool they're not as developed as in previous games and the usual stuff complaining about binary choices.

@Alcohol
I don't really drink all that often (nor do I do so hard, or even medium), but from my experiences thus far:
-Hard cider is great.
-Gin is good, with or without other things (for instance, lime juice or martini mix + olive).
-Whiskey is great.
-There's this specialty thing called a snakebite that involves 151 proof Bacardi, whiskey, and fire, which is great. It's not the normal version of a snakebite, it's something our college has.
That said, I've never gotten much of a feeling out of alcohol; any merriment-like effects seem present with or without the alcohol when in the presence of friends letting their troubles slip away. I do like the flavor pretty well, and the burn is invigorating; that's my take.

It's an odd thing with alcohol. Even if you're someone like me who keeps things close their chests it helps you talk. People loosen up and become more social. More talking and more laughter. Granted some people change in very uncharacteristic ways. One of my former friends got really punchy and things went down hill. As for the majority of America thing drinking is by its nature of a very social activity. Being the one guy not drinking makes you "that guy" and the dynamic changes. It's rather uncomfortable. Me I believe in covering my bases.Last wrote:Downloaded Skill wrote:

The DOTA community is exactly what you'd expect, but that wasn't the point of the comparison. You invest time for an outcome that you really can't get anywhere else. The flavors and experiences you can get from various types of alcohol really can't be found elsewhere. Alcohol is like food in that various cultures put their own spin on things. "Touring the world through food" can also be done through beer and wine. It's a very interesting experience to say the least.
As for my career I'm in a hospitality college at the moment. It trains in business management and the nuances of the hospitality industry. Great for restaurants, hotels and country clubs. One of the capstone classes in the program has us work at and manage a restaurant on campus. I was given the position of cost controller which managed the finances. As a result I had to work with all the sales teams including the beverage team. Since I was only 20 I couldn't do a damn thing with them even though it was my job. Selling alcohol you can't taste is very difficult. It was hilariously frustrating.
