S4 Episode 12 - Pinkie Pride

Well, the episode certainly lived up to the crazy expectations.

Multiple songs, crazier and crazier antics, and multiple Derpy appearances including one of Filly Derpy.

It was definitely a fun episode, that's for sure.

Although the live action dances from Boneless and Gummy were kinda out of place.

Surprisingly, there isn't even a single shipfic yet, and according to the search system, there's only one story that even involves Cheese.

I liked this episode and I was rather worried at first because episodes that have a special guest are hard to handle. Usually the special guest ends up being kind of overbearing, but Weird Al just seemed like another character on the show. 

What I liked:

Pinkie. While I normally don't like her because she comes off as an overbearing idiot that can't pick up on the most basic cues she was in top form this episode. She comes off as someone who is on a different wavelength, but actually cares about her friends and not just about having fun. I know some people say that Pinkie's prideful nature was too overt when it was subtle before, but as someone who also does hospitality and event planning work if you don't have pride in what you're doing you're in the wrong field.

The songs. I liked this set of songs and I'm surprised that it didn't really mess with the pacing. The episode didn't feel rushed at all even with five songs. The writers learned a lesson from MMC I take it.

Derpy is everywhere, just like they said. As long as she stays in the background I'm fine with her.

The references in this episode were pretty good and didn't feel heavy handed.

The facial expressions. I was cracking up at the expressions of the surgeon, when Pinkie hands him the cupcake, and Mr. Cake / Rarity when they see Derpy drinking out of the fountain.

I laughed hard at RD in the cheese hat and scepter. RD is best Greenbay Packer's fan.

What I didn't like:

These are mostly nitpicks but I thought RD was kind of a bitch in this episode. I know it's her birthday and all, but come on. Twilight didn't comment at all about Pinkie when she was obviously not okay and Pinkie edited Vinyl out of the wedding picture.

Okay, a glimpse of Appleloosa and the buffalo again, which was nice. They seem to be getting along still.

Eeyup, that's Weird Al all right. So... does he get off from throwing parties or does he has his own version of a Pinkie Sense of where parties need to be thrown?

So Pinkie just goes around every other day, if not every day, gathering up party supplies to throw parties. Does she pay for everything or is everything free because she throws such awesome parties?

Okay, a bit of backstory for Rainbow Dash there, what with her moving to Ponyville on her birthday apparently.

Oh yeah, that's Weird Al. And he's stealing Pinkie's schtick. Earthpony party thrower with a special sense. Obviously the best solution is the two of them to work together to throw the party, but that won't be the case. At least not at first if we're lucky.

Callin it now. "As awesome a party as this is, it's just not a party without Pinkie here."

Oh hey, a nod at her very first party.

Rather enjoying the music and songs, won't lie about that.

Hi Derpy! Enjoying the chocolate fountain I see.

Where is he getting this stuff from? I know I question if Pinkie was buying everything, but he just came to town. Who's supplying him?

No comment about the rulebook thing.

I'd give Pinkie for the Gummy part.

Element of Harmony thing happening.

Well... didn't see this coming. Cheese got his start because of Pinkie. There we go, working together. Least I'm not savvy enough to call everything.

Most people don't like polka, I do though. Nice change of the usual ending song.

Okay, so Rarity, Rainbow, and now Pinkie has their special friendship/ Harmony key item. They're doing this at a good click now I think.

Can't say much about the episode itself. I dare say Pinkie was restrained while still being herself, props to her realizing the competition wasn't working and forfeiting, and Weird Al as Cheese Sandwich was a good non-villain. Gotta call into question Applejack, Rarity, and Fluttershy being so impressed with Cheese though. Rainbow , sorry to say, is understandable since this isn't the first time something like this has happened. At least Twilight asked Pinkie if she was okay and if she was gonna help... but she should have known better than to just accept Pinkie's word that she was okay when it was obvious she wasn't.

All the nods to the previous episodes was nice though.

Overall, I enjoyed it.

Loved the animation and music in this episode. So many silly faces and such. The townsfolk ignoring Pinkie can be chalked up to the "new shiny toy" mentality that Weird Al brings, 'cuz everyone knows her, but not this feller. Though it was a bit disheartening when Twilight doesn't pick up that Pinkie is not all right with being upstaged. Animation shift was jarring... and hilarious.

Hm, Cheese never actually told us how he got his mark, just his calling in life. Also, *whistles*, either he has a crazy big budget to throw all these parties, or Pinkie, being stuck in Ponyville, never got that creative with her talents, with Cheese developing all these crazy things while traveling Equestria.  

Noticed that Pinkie has one more sister in the photo, and I don't think that she edited out Vinyl in the wedding photo, she was just not in that particular shot. "Especially once I got a hold of the music (Vinyl literally?)!"

On Polka, I'm fine with it. 'tis the only reason I like the "Friday" instrumental, via Witchcraft.
Was kinda hoping that Pinkie would retaliate when having her song parodied by doing one meta and nabbing one of Al's other songs.

Then there was Derpy popping up everywhere in the episode. Chocolate fountain nomming, and even able to work in construction now, as opposed to "The Last Roundup". And filly!Derpy *squee* Filly Colgate has braces. Filly Bon-Bon reminds me of Twist. Berry Punch is apparently older than Cheerilee and others.

At the moment my favorite Element episode.

My heart was starting to break when she started to transform into Pinkemina.  Twilight should have caught on to pinkie being sad.  I loved Cheese singing The Smile Song!
I had been looking forward to this episode for quite a while and it was freaking awesome!

So after finally watching the episode, it's one of the best in this season for sure.

Pacing was perfect even with all the songs. Either lesson learned from MMC, or it could be that this wasn't written by Larson (he and lots of songs in an episode maybe don't go well together).

Cheese didn't feel out of place, in fact, even if it would cause implosion of the universe, I think he would fit right in with the rest of the cast. :D

We got another rainbow item, that leaves Twilight, AJ and Fluttershy? Don't remember really, but they seem to be getting them kinda fast, still have half a season to go so no need to rush. Though I suppose it'll take them some time to figure out what the items even are and what to do with them and the chest.

We'll see, either way, I really liked this one.

It may seem fast, but methinks that due to loose continuity there could be some episodes that can be shuffled around to space out these items.
