Those old-school FPS are crazy. 10 minutes into Painkiller and I had no idea what was happening. Good design of enemies though.

You know, I'm not sure "doesn't have a cover system" is a positive to this list.
Cover systems aren't bad by themselves.

Come on, dude, just use a shard of volcanic glass. Learn to improvise, dammit. That's the name of the game in this business.swicked wrote:Hmm, no, they know me there. I mean, I know bone can work well, but who has the time?
Anyway, could you lend me a few souls, Frost? With the holidays and all, it looks like I might be coming up short this month.
Harmony, you want to talk about boredom? Try coming home to Ohio. While crippled.

On the topic of games, Sleeping Dogs just went on sale for 5 bucks on Steam.
I very highly recommend that game. I went into it with mild expectations and really enjoyed it.

Well, at least I have a powerful PC, a ton of videogames and a stock of DVDs, music, books, aaaaand my family.
Still... The very fact I felt boredom (read : "so... what do I do now ?") given the above just goes to show how much I've already been acclimated to not having time for myself.
After only 8 weeks of being in the army.
Mein Got.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I wouldn't call the old school shooters mindless fun, sure they tend to be coarse, but I think they required good exploration skills. You HAD to look around in the old school games for health, armor, and ammo for you different situational guns. They tend to be squirreled away in secret areas outside the main path. In modern shooters you don't have to. You're basically running down a hallway with no side paths the whole time. You don't need to search for ammo in new shooters because there is no difference between your gun and the enemy's gun.
In the old school games you had to look around because they don't spoon feed the players health, armor, and ammo in the amounts you would need to be at 100%. You wouldn't find rocket launcher ammo lying around just anywhere, and you would need that ammo for the bosses or those really tough special enemies. Old school games tended to not hold your hand in any way, if you died you were supposed to adjust your strategies and the death wasn't a big deal. That isn't the case with modern shooters where they tend to guide the player along for an experience, not a challenge.

@ Swicked : I already did catch up with Cloudsville. At least the topics of importance : I'm not going to go through 8 weeks of archive of this thread...
And I'm currently waiting for feedback in the Setting thread.
Also caught up with the other forum I frequent. I'm also up to date with PH, Five Scores, and several other stories I follow. And with MLP proper, needless to say. I'll watch S04E06 tomorrow.
Only thing I have yet to catch up with, maybe, are the videos on Circonflexe's channel, and it's already ongoing.

Though I -did- buy the boxset of the three Mad Max movies a few weeks ago...
But I already have a movie scheduled tonight (Wreck-it Ralph).
Seems like I'll have to optimize my rest-time.

So I remembered that it was Saturday, told myself "Make sure you set the timer for the DVR" soon after I woke up, and... forgot to do that.
I get back on here, started to curse myself for forgetting, and remembered that I set it up at the start of the season to only record the new episodes automatically
Watching it now..

That feel when you have done everything you thought about doing for the night, don't feel motivated to do anything else, look at the time and realize there's still quite a bit of time to go around.
Fuck that noise, I'll just get up early tomorrow.

I'm likin' these Steam Christmas sales. I finally nabbed myself some games I've been waiting to get for a while, for the approximate price of "cheap as fuck"

I decided to give the industrial metal band "Ministry" a shot, and after about an hour of listening to them, I realized that I was listening to the wrong band (Fireball Ministry), and it was one that I had never heard mentioned. Yet, I still liked it.

Maybe this has already been shared and the jokes have grown stale, but cut Mr. Off-The-Grid-For-Seven-Weeks some slack.

I've never even listened to the damn song, personally. I just thought the joke was funny, and Vulpes is a pretty cool guy (who kills Profligates ect. ect.)

@Iron (Ministry)
There are two different things that a prospective Ministry-listener must know. First off, almost everything they release while a Republican isn't President is shite. Al Jourgenson needs something to be extremely pissed off about to write good music. Two, there are several different genres of Ministry. They started off as a fake-British accents synthpop clone because their producers were like "Hey do this," then they were an extreme industrial band (people generally say that this was their best time), then they played some industrial metal which was on average okay, then they went into my favorite phase - industrial thrash. Here's a sample of that last one.

Thank you kindly. Most of my interest in metal bands seems to be gravitating around lesser-known bands such as Coal Chamber and Fear Factory, generally bands with highly-aggressive and powerful sounds.

Pretty much. I've got games and comics to distract myself, but I can't even run (which I did a lot of, every day, before I left) let alone the more physical shit like hiking that I'd rather be doing.swicked wrote:Really looking forward to doing the same once I get home.Mister Frost wrote:I'm likin' these Steam Christmas sales.
