Yeah, it would never fix -all- of the issues regarding the story, but ask Camo specifically and from what I can gather, people find the idea of Red Eye having feelings for Pip to make a lot of sense.
For one, I made Red Eye say he'd give the bomb to Pip on two conditions; first being she would use it against the Goddess and none other. Second being that she had to sleep with him [because he had a thing for her].

She sleeps with him and enjoys it a lot more than she realised she could've, questioning her sexuality (though ultimately it comes down to use of chems, alcohol and Red Eye's supposed (underwritten in the original) charm and for her to have just enough interest that she doesn't think about it, but that her body could be tempted.
I know that idea might make you rage, it might not, but it's a non canon spin off anyway.
Anyway, yeah, he barters with her and that gives him a good reason to give her the bomb.

It also solves why he would be a little too willing to give Pip a chance at the end, even if he says he doesn't want to go and merge her into him if she'd hate him for it, if he didn't have a crush on her he could've just gone with the other unicorns he had for that purpose and let the general hivemind be what he needed to stop his ego from being the new big bad of the wasteland.
So ultimately, he was hoping she'd think back to that night he spent with her but this makes his demise all the more horrible (and now in a good way) because he would've felt betrayed by the one he had feelings for in his last seconds.

I may be wrong, it may be other things, but I think that's why people liked it so much (aside from it being clop and getting their rocks off.)

I get what you mean here (though I think you may be reading too far into it) and I, too, have noticed that both erotic and non-erotic media seems to feature the male partner being the dominant partner when it concerns sexuality--even an otherwise assertive woman, when they're hopping in bed, ends up submitting to the male. It becomes even more noticeable in the case of hermaphrodites, wherein the (wo)man in question can be dominant with a woman and immediately submit to a man. ^"WELL THERE'S YOUR PROBLEM!" I don't mean "your" problem as in the problem in general. The reason why there's so few furries compared to how many people are interested in anthropomorphics and would be getting down with a fandom based around it is that the furry fandom in general has extremely generic art styles and such. The number two art styles they have to offer are the kawaii desu-san anime-esque style of people who watch anime and try to imitate it, or the uncanny valley art style action motions or dynamic characters. Both of which are exceptionally cringeworthy cause if someone is just imitating another artist's style without evolving it then when they draw porn it's going to be a trainwreck.

That isn't to say there aren't any good porn artists of the sort, rather if someone is JUST imitating another art style without evolving it on top of their own it's going to be cringeworthy especially when someone goes to draw porn. If someone wants to draw good mlp porn/good anthro porn/good porn in general people should not ever simply imitate what they are referencing, cause a artist's drawing style is not something that is like a tshirt or something, it is a integral part of how the artist draws and a artist should not give up on their own art style, but rather evolve it and grow it to become better.

Take even artists with similar styles to what they're drawing. I know they're not a porn artist, but look at equestria-prevails, even though their art style is a lot like mlp, there are still key differences in style cause they took mlp and grew their own style out of it and evolved upon it.

I know this is a long post, but hope you get what I'm getting at.
