Anyone know if this story is dead? It's beeen a good while since Camo made a post. I've seen him on steam few times so I assume he's alright.

Well, that's saddening. Every time a good story like this dies, it seems like another nail in the coffin of the fandom--not the bullshit going on now, but that creative, talented bunch of folks that came together, got along, made music, art, and stories in a movement the scale of which has rarely been seen before. That seems to have been rapidly fading off--new, really good art (not just vectors), music, and stories are getting rarer and rarer wherever I go, at least

I'll admit that there are a decent number of folks out there still writing good stories, but they're fewer and fewer in number and increasingly crowded by shitty stories (especially half-ass crossovers) and you don't see much on the scale of Ace combat: overlong title or FoE (not that they were perfect stories, just that a great deal of thought, effort, and creativity went into them, and they were actually something different from the herd of drivel)

Sorry it took so long guys, but this week has been an abstract version of hell as far as work goes.
Anyways, here's a basic outline of what was going to happen:

Sandy gets killed by Starry during her "game". Charmer manages to track them to where Starry is hunting them down and they kill her.
The group goes into the city and runs into a zebra patrol. They try to kill the group, all escape except Goober.
They reach Gold's Corral; The founder is a ghoul who preaches that zebras and ponies should live in peace due to being almost identical biologically. He allows the group in and uses them as an example of how well ponies and zebras can live together. Time skippidy.
Shayle and the others have been living in the town for a few months. Shayle works as an assistant to the local caregiver taking care of kids while their parents are at work, Charmer doesn't do much but drink and occassionally goes on hunts to get food for the town. Felix and Tinker are closer and don't have much to occupy their time between simple jobs they are given. Vulpe usually sticks around with Shayle at the daycare and has grown rather fond of her. The town is attacked often by the "Swamp Ghouls", who see their town as an intrusion on their territory. The leader asks Shayle and the others to help after learning that they have some knowledge of the Swamp Ghouls' tactics after the warehouse incident. Felix accepts along with Tinker, if just for something useful to do, but the others are hesitant. Shayle eventually agrees because Felix can't be disuaded, Charmer joins in because she "doesn't trust them to stay alive without her".
They get ambushed in the swamp while looking for wherever the Swamp Ghouls live; Shayle and Vulpe get separated from the others and captured. They are prepared to be sacrificed to the spirits that the Swamp Ghouls worship. Both have their souls torn out by dark magic and put into dolls. Charmer and the others find the camp and start their attack during this. The shaman of the Ghouls continues the ceremony and kills Vulpe, but is shot before she can kill Shayle. They manage to escape and get back to Gold's Corral with news that there were too many for them to handle. The leader still thanks them and apologizes for their loss, promising he won't ask such a thing of them again.
Time skip.
A few weeks later Shayle has grown incredibly bitter and angry over Vulpe's death, which has slowly started making her more cold toward the children at work. Felix and Tinker try to soothe her, but she doesn't respond as far as they can see. Charmer seems even worse than before, and spends almost all of her time at the local bar even if she isn't drinking.
The Swamp Ghouls charge the town, but don't attack it, instead they beg for help and shelter. The leader of the town agrees and lets them stay, but always under guard. They claim that "iron soldiers" are chasing them. Sure enough, the next day Steel Rangers show up and assault the town. The combined townsfolk and Ghouls manage to fight them off temporarily, but Shayle races off to chase them in some kind of blind rage. Felix, Tinker and Charmer chase her, and manage to arrive as she executes a wounded Ranger who was begging for mercy.
Tinker goes off on her, the two argue violently while Felix and Charmer try to break it up. Eventually Shayle loses it and breaks Tinker's leg before throwing her into the swamp. Felix saves her and yells at Shayle. The two argue. Tinker and Felix leave. Charmer speculates they went back to town and just need time to cool off. They get back to town and find that neither of them is there, and nobody has seen them since they chased Shayle into the swamp. Charmer and Shayle go out to find them, but can't find any sign of them. Shayle breaks down for a brief moment, but suddenly finds herself getting angry with him for leaving rather than feeling sad about it at all. Charmer questions it, but leaves it alone when Shayle either refuses, or can't, explain why.
When the rangers come back a few days later, they overpower and slaughter the town, with only a few escaping. Shayle and Charmer get away before the worst of the attack, but Charmer is severely injured during the escape. After a few hours, Charmer passes away from blood loss, but Shayle hardly feels sad before getting pissed with the Rangers and decides she only wants revenge on them for taking away everyone she cared about, deciding it was all their fault for some reason she couldn't quite figure out.
She goes into New Oatleans to find Minx and the other Scorpions, deciding that they can help her best get revenge. Eventually she runs into Solus and a group of zebras fighting the Rangers and jumps in to help. She is knocked out during the fight after an explosion that is too close to her, and wakes up in a zebra camp with Minx and Solus looking over her. Solus tries to question why she's in the city, but Minx is already yelling at her for it and not staying with her brother and friends. She tells her what happened and Minx leaves very quickly.
Solus tells Shayle she should really leave, but she continues to refuse and demand that she can help them to get revenge on the Rangers. He warns her that revenge won't make it any better, and could easily end with her being killed, but she doesn't care if that's how it ends. Eventually he tells her to do whatever she wants, but he won't help her if that's all she wants. Minx comes back later in the night and wakes Shayle up, seeming to have calmed down greatly. She tells Shayle that she'll let her help them, but only because they're short on soldiers and losing severely in the city. Shayle thanks her and feels sickly happy about the news, which worries her slightly before the feeling fades back into sadistic joy. Minx says that she appreciates the help and remarks that she's "glad her daughter will be around for the end of it" before leaving.
Time skip.
She helps them in a few fights and does rather well, but only because she risks her own safety countless times, just getting lucky that she doesn't get killed. Minx has commented on it many times, but Shayle refuses to change her actions despite her mother's insistence.
Eventually they get to the middle of the city, where the Rangers have secured a chemical weapons dump from the war and are trying to get it open. The zebras attack but quickly realize they're drastically outgunned. They continue to fight despite that, believing that if the rangers get the weapons they'll use them to attack zebra towns across the wasteland. They quickly start to lose their numbers, so Shayle and Solus follow Minx around the battlefield to get to a better position. They get spotted and are pinned down only a few hundred feet from the bunker. Shayle sees one of the zebras with a rocket get gunned down less than 50 feet away and jumps out to run for it, Solus runs after her to try and stop her, but gets shot and falls. Minx starts shooting to try covering her, but it isn't enough to stop them. Shayle gets hit just before reaching the rocket and falls down. She drags herself over to it while bleeding profusely , but still reaches it. Instead of using it on the Rangers, in a moment of clarity she realizes it could be used to collapse the bunker entrance and at least keep them from reaching the weapons for a time. She stands up and fires without being shot down, despite the efforts of the Rangers still firing at her.
The bunker collapses and kills the ranger scribes trying to open it.
Shayle gets hit again and falls down, but can't pick herself back up.
She suddenly feels herself being dragged, and notices a shimmer dragging her, and knows it's Minx. She ends up being wrong when Solus finally takes off his hood after getting them both to safety. He's bleeding badly and seems faint, but still runs back out to find Minx. She shows up without him, and asks Shayle where he is. She tells Minx that he ran out to look for her, and she instantly turns around to find him. While she's out, the Rangers scout by her hiding spot, but leave her to bleed when they see her state.
Minx gets back shortly after they leave with an unconscious Solus over her back and starts treating them with her minimal medical supplies.
Story ends with Shayle blacking out after a monologue about loss and gain (yes, it's happened before, this is on purpose). Yada yada, lost everything she cared about in life yada yada "all that matters is what you have left."

That's.... Huh. Not where I expected it to go. At all. Although I can't deny that captures the spirit of the dark and depressing better then anything I've ever read, so...
