Re: Surrounded by Necromorphs
And it's times like this I wish did have my weird mentality of not getting games everybody else have long after everybody has played them.
For all the love I hear from everybody about Dead Space and Dead Space 2, I still haven't played either of them.
It's not that I dislike games like them, I'll probably enjoy the hell out of them. Just for whatever reason I haven't gotten around to playing them myself.
So, should I go with the PC version or PS3? Those are the only options i have.

There aren't any differences between any versions of the game.

Yeah, Scyto said something about that yesterday.

I played the demo as well... And then I did some co-op with the... Highly attractive person who stared this thread. It was glorious. I probably won't get it until after a few months of it being out, but when I do, it will be amazing.

Oh you Xbox people with your Halos and yada yada. haha.
Probably going to get the PS3 version. My computer could probably run them amazingly but it's also pushing 4 to 5 years old and it's already bogged down with other games.
Now to just get Dead Space and Dead Space 2 so I can get properly hyped for 3.

Re: Surrounded by Necromorphs
Have I ever mentioned that I love Dead Space? OH! Another relevant time to post this:
Well, silliness aside, a friend of mine, (who goes by ScreenedPlum in various circles) said that he is not content with EA's treatment of DS3, what with the lack of specific PC improvements but especially with the microtransaction option related to the B.E.N.C.H. system, which he claims gives the option to basically win the game because you can buy the best weapons in the game. This option, he claims, ruins the game's atmosphere entirely. I tend to disagree, as combat isn't the most interesting part of DS' atmosphere to me; that would be the neat world and story.
I don't see the big deal with the lack of PC optimizations, either. I think the game will be a blast, and the co-op portion will definitely be neat, as well. Pretty excited, I am.

I really don't understand the issue with the microtransactions. The option is there, but that doesn't mean you have to use it. I guess I just don't understand why people hate it so much when they are allowed to ignore it if they want...IncoherentOrange wrote:Have I ever mentioned that I love Dead Space? OH! Your friend was wrong about being able to buy the best thing at the start.IncoherentOrange wrote:

And besides, it's not like they're forcing him to use microtransactions.

Re: Surrounded by Necromorphs
Isn't Dead Space the game that's famous for being able to beat the whole thing using only the starting weapons? With up-grades of course, but even if you could buy the best weapon from the start that doesn't mean anything in terms of gameplay unless it's like one shot, insta-kill, unlimited ammo from the get go.

Classic Mode: This mode will disable item crafting and all weapons will have to be constructed from blueprints. It will also only use DS1 aiming.Sky Cloud wrote:Game modes? Hardcore mode? ENLIGHTEN ME!!!!Orm wrote:Personally, I'm looking forward to the new game modes.

Survival Mode: Resources can only be found from dead enemies. Which means you will have to build ammo packs, health kits, upgrades, and weapons.
Hardcore mode: You can save as many times as you want, but you only have 1 life. Once you die you restart from the beginning.

New Game + was fun and all, but it got old after 6 playthroughs.
That being said, I'm still happy they left New Game + in.

"Taking down the Terror"?
Sounds like a justification of making the game less scary to me. Course my experience with survival horror comes from Resident Evil 4 onward and Amnesia which I didn't finished because I didn't want to have to dehydrate myself just to be able to play it for more then 10 minutes at a time.

Re: Surrounded by Necromorphs
Well it can also be interpreted to show how much Isaac has changed since the first game.
At first Necromorphs were an unknown to him, Isaac was just a scared Engineer looking for his girlfriend.
In the second, Isaac already knows about them, he knows how to kill them, he has dealt with this before and takes charge.
The way the game's style has changed makes sense with how Isaac has changed throughout his story.
Looking back and comparing, DS1 Isaac was a lot more afraid than DS2 Isaac.

Re: Surrounded by Necromorphs
Is is sad/bad that what I took out of that is for a game series to be completely survival horror, you just shove completely new people into the horror and never bring them back and never let what happen be known to the outside world?
Not saying it's a bad thing, just that that particular line of thinking kinda justifies the Resident Evil series becoming more actiony. It's the same character who've been through that crap before, an any new person drug into the middle of it has an idea what's going on before hand due to all these events being well known.

Re: Surrounded by Necromorphs
Well the main reason no one in the universe know about it is because Isaac was the only survivor in DS1, and got put into a mental wing of a hospital. And the Necromorph outbreak got covered up and the crew dying was blame on a terrorist attack.
As for After DS2.
Well, I don't know yet. It's pretty hard to cover up a whole station blowing up.
That, and there might have been some survivors.

Re: Surrounded by Necromorphs
I think you're right Orm, but just because people are aware of a situation doesn't mean they're prepared for it. If they wanted to they could create a a character one of those people that aren't prepared.
I'm not saying kill off Isaac of course, he could still be there maybe even offer guidance to the new character. But if not playing as him meant the game stuck closer to survival horror I think the trade off would be worth it.
I'm just not sure that I'll like this action shift they've taken. I wasn't a big fan RE5 myself I really disliked that game actually so maybe you can understand my skepticism.

Re: Surrounded by Necromorphs
Well DS3 does manage to still surprise me.
The demo itself showed a more action oriented portion of the game.
There are still going to be the dark claustrophobic areas in DS3.
