America nationally, individually, and through organizations gives more money to charity and puts more toward the aid and development of other nations (money, food, workers/volunteers, etc.) than any other nation by a ton.
So maybe a little bit better than a retarded, violent asshole.
I'm not a nationalist and don't want to get into some kinda argument or anything, but your perception of the USA is a bit much, if you're being at all serious.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
So, I was watching videos of military materials on youtube, wanking to some hot gun action, and I suddenly came to a realization :
We, humans, as a species, have through the ages developed increasingly sophisticated ways to kill things and ourselves, to a point where we can (theoretically) kill most of a country's population remotely with minimal loss of life on our side (theoretically).
I lack words to describe the kind of awe it inspire me, but let's just say that the current state of Mankind's Military put a whole new meaning on the expression "super-predator".
What I find poetically ironic is that for all our might and destructive capabilities, for all our scientific achievements, fundamentally we are still meatbags as vulnerable as any other.
Take away Man's tools, and he will just be an hairless ape.
And yet we can destroy Worlds.

@Harmony
We can do all that stuff as humans, Because we has the smart.
That's not going to be the case forever, though. Some people are predicting that by 2040-ish, we'll be able to upload our minds to computers, and ascend to true immortality, to rule this and other worlds forever as gods of iron and silicon.
Hell yeah.

TheMiNd is making the wrong leap. Thomas the Tank Engine is about pure capitalism all right but it's not an endorsement of communism because everything is presented positively.Ironmonger wrote:

Lets look broadly at the four main groups in the show and storys.
First we have Sir Topham Hatt, he owes the trains and he controls them. Rewards them and punishes them as appropriate and he's nearly always punishing them.
We have the trains, the trains are interchangeable but they are the "heroes" of the story striving to do their job well to earn Sir Topham Hatt's regard and avoid his punishments. There are agonist trains (Like Diseal) but for the most part they are the heroes.
We have the passenger and box cars, they are an antagonistic force who strive to oppose the actions of the trains
Last we have everyone else who exists merely to push the paper thin children story plots along. If they have a characteristic they only have one of them.
The thing is in Tomas the Tank Engine the fact that Sir Topham Hatt is always right is a given in story. It's his job to run the railroads and trains that don't preform get shut down (killed). The show is always about someone striving to be more and Topham Hatt having to force them back into line. If it were communist propaganda then the alternative view would be show and Topham Hatt would not always be right. It's closest to Fascist propaganda not Capitalist or Communist as competition or collectives is at the behest of the boss not the shareholders or the workers.
If you want Communist propaganda you'll need Smurfs

It's not a touchy subject it's just Ironmonger is lacking information.swicked wrote:Question: was the war of 1812 between the USA and Britain, or the USA and Canada?
Because I always thought it was between the USA and Britain, the armies and navies being from Britain and funded by Britain, the war starting because of the ongoing conflict between the USA and Britain and peace eventually being sought with Britain, but I have a Canadian telling me it was a Canadian victory, despite Canada still being a territory at the time and, well... everything else.
The war of 1812 in short was viewed in the states as a second great Revolution against mean old Britain who was still screwing around with us because of the revolution. American wanted Canada and Britain wanted America back but Britain was mainly concerned with the current ongoing Napoleonic war at the time. So on the British side of things they were funding Canadians, Native American tribes and Mercenaries to fight us since their military was tied up elsewhere.
At the end of the fighting the Native Americans have been decimated west of the colonies, we had failed in our attacks on Canada and the forced enlistment of our sailors by the British ended of it's own accord (They no longer needed tons of sailors). When the war ended American said fine Canada is Britans and Britain side fine America is yours and we will stop backing the Native Americans with guns and training. In the end basically we stopped picking fights with the English and they stopped insulting us and selling guns to the NA.
As a result be became good friends over the next century. It was not until WWII that we became true brothers again.

Most of my poems are about war and fighting. Usually I end up rhyming and being poetic without trying. Then I just drop the ball, curse at myself and say "fuck it all". In person I'm like a squirrel on crack, but I always have a friend's back.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I have a question about designing oc ponies.
I'm redesigning my oc and want to still have it as a batpony. The question is would it be considered a faux pas to have a batpony that can use firebreath? No other magic of the sort or anything, just firebreath and the trade off is the oc can barely fly(like even fluttershy flies better) or such and when their armor is on they are insanely heavy to the point they can barely walk.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
The War of 1812 was a conflict between British Canada and the United States. British Canada was part of the Empire, so it was not necessarily a war against Canada, as their beef was really with the British.
If you look at the 400 thousand militia the US had in the War of 1812 compared to the 25 thousand Canadian irregular and regular forces if you count the First Nations with 48 thousand British regulars, its not really a wonder the counterattack failed to hold any territory. They were vastly outnumbered but inflicted more casualties on the Americans and lost less.
Here's a war that people never seem to talk about.

That actually sounds like he has too many negatives. Don't worry about faux pas as long as he isn't overpowered. My OC is actually a "false alicorn" with the strength of an earther but not the endurance, the agility of a pegasus but not the wings, and the telekinesis of a unicorn but somewhat lousy with spellcraft. You could do something along the lines of your OC being able to manipulate fire.CannonFodder wrote:I have a question about designing oc ponies.

Very high defensive points, but very low speed.
High fire stats, low flying stats.
The only overpowered ability is that their armor is so heavy that if they fall on you something is going to break.

I think I get the idea here, he is a Mighty Glacier. I was curious as to why he was a batpony and slow but then I realized "Well duh, it's to increase overall mobility." Your character sounds really neat.

My last few iterations I didn't like, so this time I'm actually taking my time. I have about 1/4th redesigned. But yeah it's a mighty glacier. I plan on doing a one off comic once I get done with the character redesign to get back in the grove of drawing.

That's a really good exploration on the theme of "Careful what you wish for.".
From an AI design standpoint, it shows once again why creating an AI on an "Optimizer" paradigm is a really, really, REALLY bad choice.
Personally, I wouldn't trust an AI that isn't binded and subservient to a human consciousness. And even then, it's too much power for a single individual to hold.
I'm not a big fan of the Singularity Institute myself (I loathe "Singulitarians" as an ideology), but I have to render onto Caesar, they are laying a lot of groundwork on the "General AI" problematic and all the framework needed to deal with the thing in a coherent manner.
