She's pretty much up there with Derpy, Vinyl Scratch, Octavia, and her alleged marefriend Bonbon as one of the most popular background ponies. Hardly obscure - in fact, it'd be hard for her to be less obscure.

No, I mis-used the sign to mean 'Lyra is greater than nothing', as in a mathematical equation. Derrrp. Shoulda switched it.

Also, it matches that signature .GIF I snatched from the Mechwarrior Online forums. To a fandom extent, my stories mostly involve humans, so there's a little justification there. (Though I personally dislike the 'Lyra is obsessed with humans' concept.)

I didn't really like Jack's character, not that many are very well-developed aside from perhaps Garrus, Tali, and Liara, which is owed to the fact that they appear as party members (Liara is DLC in ME2, if I recall) in all three games. Jack just seems an 'I hate everything and am badass' character to me.
