It was a silly, fun little love letter to the fans. Considering this show wouldn't have blown up like it did without us I think having a little milestone celebration like this was inevitable.

Though I will say I'm extremely happy Celestia and Luna finally acted like sisters for once. We see them a lot as royalty and leaders, but we really don't see them as ponies very often, if at all. Hopefully we'll see more of that because it gives them some personality and depth.
