S4 Episode 11 - Three's a Crowd

I have to say, this was a rather hilarious episode. It had me chuckling from beginning to end.

Overall I loved the episode and only have minor grievances and nitpicks. 

What I liked:

Discord. He was in good form this episode and provided a lot of good comedy. I like what they're doing with him. He's mischievous, chaotic, and not quite evil, but exploits the reformation to his advantage so he can do what he wants as long as he justifies it in a way the cast would be receptive to. I'm certain he knew the sand worm would be there and disposing of Twilight would help him considerably. He wins either way. I like that in a villain.

Cadence getting more characterization. Knowledge and interest in historical figures, searches for excitement, aversion to routine. Cadence has narrative and world significance so having her be shallow for so long is just a waste.

Twilight being such a dork it's adorable.

The fight scene was entertaining.

Well done facial expressions. AJ raising her eyebrow and the looks everyone gave Rarity when Discord asked for a feinting couch were some particularly good moments.

They are actively trying to integrate the breezies into the world rather than just drop them in because the marketing team wants more money for their swimming pools. 

Twilight using her wings and having her princesshood referenced. It only took half a season.

The references. I really liked the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas one.

The interactions between Rarity and AJ. They really don't have as much screentime together as they should. It's a good dynamic.

What was okay:

The song. Not the greatest song by any means, but it was okay. I enjoyed the references and the Twilight squeeze toy more than the song. I just love that pointy pony art style.

The Flash sentry cameo. I'm pretty sure that glance he gave was significant, but I don't really care that he showed up. I could hear the internet exploding into a fiery ball of rage as soon as I saw him.

What I didn't like:

The plot was kind of shallow and it took a while to get going. I was laughing the whole time though so it's more of a nitpick.

Pinkie being written as a brainless idiot again. So soon after an actual in character appearance in Pinkie Apple Pie she's back to this. Is it too much to ask that she have a brain and a heart in episodes that don't focus on her?

I found it weird that Rainbow dash was so quick to bail. Element of loyalty much?

We don't see what the rest main cast was doing. Rarity, AJ, and probably RD were infected, but we don't see what it does to ponies. I would have appreciated even one cutaway shot or something like that.

In an episode that features Cadence Shining Armor isn't even mentioned in passing. He is Twilight's brother and probably equally important to Twilight. I found it a little odd, but I guess they're trying to avoid tying them together because of the unfortunate implications. 

The vore and tentacle art that is probably being made in droves at this very moment because of the worm.

I looked at it this way: Rainbow knew that Discord wouldn't actually hurt them, and she also knew that getting involved in his shenanigans would just make her day difficult, so in a rare moment of common sense, she said to herself, "Screw this, I'm out of here." and took off. And be honest, if Discord came to your door saying he was sick and needed taken care of, would you really stick around and actually do it?

You know, I think you people take the Elements thing a bit too literally.

Sure, she is an Element of Loyalty, but should that mean that she has to be loyal every single second of the day even in the most trivial matters? I don't think so, that would just make her boring and completely predictable character, any of the Mane 6. And we saw before that especially RD and Rarity are sometimes at odds with their supposed Element. I'd take it that when it REALLY matters you can count on RD to be loyal to her friends, but expecting it of her all the time is ridiculous.  

As for the episode, it was hilarious... And tentacles.

Tentacle tongues you say... Oh well, a bit of implied tentacle **** *** never killed anyone. And artists already got enough material from the first two episodes anyway.
