"Lookit, Applejack! Lookit!"

If it wasn't Applebloom's excited yelling that woke her up, it was certainly her suddenly plopping onto Applejack's back. The large workhorse let out a whoof of air before sighing loudly; once again, her nap was disturbed. But even then, she couldn't keep a smile off her face as she listened to AB's enthusiatic insistance. Teeth tugged at her ears and mane in an attempt to get her attention, before AJ finally decided to relent with an amused sound.

"Alright, alright, AB. Ah'm up. What're ya howlin' about?" Applejack drawled, sitting up slowly and peering over her shoulder to look at her little sister. The filly thumped her hooves against her back with a large smile.

"Look! Yer hat's beginnin' ta fit! Ah'm gettin' bigger!"

Applejack took a quick look at the hat in question and chuckled. Applebloom had grown quite a bit in the past year, but she still couldn't really fit her big sister's hat yet. The brown old steston drooped low over Applebloom's eyes, and she had to tilt it far back so it wouldn't completely engulf her head.

"Ya sure are, pup." AJ rumbled with a throaty laugh. "Pretty soon ya'll gonna be as big as me."

Applebloom beamed up at her sister, eyes alight with hope. "Yeah? Does that mean you can teach me how ta buck apples too?"

"A'course Ah will."

The little filly wrapped her hooves on Applejack's shoulders and whooped with glee, pushing her head up into her sister's mane happily. "YES! Thank you thank you thank you!"

Applejack only huffed out a laugh and turned her head to return the nuzzle, playfully nipping at her little sister's mane. The filly gave a "HEY!" in protest and shook her head as she leaned away. She swatted gently at her sister's muzzle and grumbled half-heartedly, frowning for just a moment before she broke back into her smile with a giggle.

Applejack giggled along with her before finally settling down a bit, looking at her sister with a raised brow. "Now, why don't ya head on out and play, eh? This old mare gotta rest sometime, yeah?"

"PFT! Yer not even that old, AJ."

"Ah'm old enough. Now go on, now. Git."

The workhorse nudged at her sister with a cheeky grin, who swatted at her nose again as she giggled. Finally she took her weight off of her big sister, reaching for the hat to take it off. A large hoove stopped her, however, plopping the hat back onto her head and rustling it a bit to mess at her mane.

"Why don'tcha keep it on for today? I'm sure ya'll responsible enough to take care of it."

Applebloom's eyes widened almost comically and shown brightly with hope. "Y-y-ya mean it? Can Ah really?"

"A'course. Just make sure ya'll give it back today, ya hear?"

Once again, Applejack found herself bombarded with tight hugs and nuzzles and a plethora of "THANK YOU THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU". She laughed heartily and loudly this time, amused by her sister's enthusiasm.

Applebloom finally pulled away and hopped excitedly on her hooves, using one to adjust the hat on her head for better leverage. "I'll take care of it real good! Ya won't regret it!" And with that she took off toward the Treehouse, shouting all along the way with a large grin plastered to her face.

Applejack watched her go with a small grin of her own, a sort of pride resenating from deep within her chest. The little filly reminded her a lot of herself when she was young, doe-eyed and always insistant that she was growing to her amused father, who'd only laugh and plop his large hat atop of her head. The very hat Applebloom proudly wore now, even with it falling over her eyes almost constantly.

With a final amused huff the workhorse laid her head down in the soft grass, the smile on her muzzle unshakable even as she dozed off.
