Original plan for Luna:

Luna was intended to have a lingering issue with Celestia. I wanted her to be a bigger part of Season 1, but I worried about pushback for her "darkness" in the beginning. I meant for her to still need to learn how to feel good about herself in her sister's shadow, a lesson I thought could be valuable for girls with older siblings.

Basically: She would actually have fuckin character and not just drop off the earth for a whole season.

The funny thing is that her idea got shut down cause hasbro thought she would never be popular for her back story being "too dark". Right about now Faust is probably laughing her ass off at how even though they're pushing celestia, cadance, and twilight toys Luna is still top favorite princess.

That's probably why they're bringing luna back as a actual character cause hasbro probably went, ". . . shit. You mean after three seasons luna is still the favorite princess? And that we could have been making a shit load of money if we pushed her as much as we did for celestia? . . double shit"

Two things:
1. Generally, I find it's safe to assume people in power never learn anything,ever. They're alpha-types and they didn't get to their position by listening to others, but by having or stealing ideas and implementing them successfully. If they were to really admit to even the smallest degree of incompetence, it would hurt their ego, position and general credibility. What they are doing now is, at most, a concession to the writers that have been pushing to tell this story.

2. ...was Cadence even in Equestria Girls?

It's not that they're admitting they were wrong so much as they have seen how much money they can make and they desperately want that money.
