Off topic, but since my computer is being such a **** is anyone here familiar with ubuntu?  The short version is I want to install the nvidia driver needed to play games, but the problem is in order to do so I have to go into tty1, but pressing ctrl alt f1-f6 just takes me to a blank screen.  It has to do with the generic nouveau driver and xserver not wanting to work.  I'm moderately okay with using ubuntu, but if you can help can you explain it in everyday english how I can troubleshoot this? Ubuntu used to have it so video drivers would show up in additional drivers, but now it doesn't and oh boy does it make it a million times more difficult. I wish you just add nvidia to your repositories, install and be done with it :\

I'm having problems trying to install a new video driver, but tty1 isn't working cause of the default video driver(nouveua).  It's a known issue with ubuntu . . one that for some reason even though they know it's a problem they don't fix. . and well can't play on the minecraft server, can't play kerbal space program or anything and well fml.

If you don't know how to fix then how do you install your video drivers?



Also what is this scp foundation I keep hearing about in the thread?  Is it a creepy pasta or something?

Um, I'm not that good with ubuntu, but what I'd do:

1)Try download and re-install driver package, using built-in downloader/installer.

2)Use not last version, but version 'few versions before'. Usually it's more stable one.

3)I, honestly, never did that on ubuntu, so I don't know how it'll turn out. I did it only on windows: delete drivers and reboot system, ubuntu _should_ install default drivers (allways keep ubuntu live cd near, just in case).

4) If you have both internal (built-in) and external (just graphic card) video card, try un-plug former and start from buit-in one. Delete driver for external card, then plug it in and install NOT latest drivers for it.

Oh I wasn't criticizing her for not playing the instrument as she was recording. It's just that when someone says fiddle I assume they're talking about bluegrass and she wasn't playing blugrass.

Oh, well apparently we're about as good with ubuntu as each other.  The problem is pretty complex cause whoever made the default video driver(nouveua) was a idiot and never thought "Hey people need to turn off the video driver in order to upgrade, but there's a bug in which my video driver will refuse to turn off in tty1 so let's not fix that known cause it's not like anyone will ever need to update their computer"
