"Maybe there is. We haven't been back for too long."

((They probably should, but I don't know how much longer I'll be around for. Could be a few minutes, could be another hour or two. Might have to drop halfway through.))

Neon smiles and kisses him, "Then we'd best look on the outskirts of town - that's where the smaller apartments are."

The box opens easily, and a music box starts to play. Inside is an assortment of seemingly random objects. The music box, of course, a faded and torn pink scarf, two keys on a keychain, a small doll, a very beautifully carved dagger, an old handkerchief, and a note.

The note reads,

To my dearest Shayle,

I cannot express how sorry I am that I could't hold on until you came back. I tried, I really did. But now I realize, as I write this, that I won't see you again, and there are a few things I want you to know.

First of all, I don't want you to be sad. You're a big girl now, and I'm not going to bullshit you by saying it was a peaceful way to go. It hurts so painfully now, and I imagine it will get worse before I finally die. But know that thinking of you and your brother kept me going long enough to write this.

First of all, I want you to have the items in this box. They mean a lot to me, and took years to get them back from where they were scattered around the wasteland, but there's no one I'd rather have them, then you and Felix. The first is my mothers music box, it may sound sad, but she always played it to help me get to sleep when I was a colt, over the sounds of violence above me. It always worked, and I hope it might for you.

Second, is the Scarf. My father gave it to me - it may have been a little girly for my tastes at the time, but I respected it when I got older. He found it in a safe in the house of a good friend of the Ministry Mare Rarity. She had apparently passed it on to him as a gift, for good luck. So I pass it on to you.

The two keys are more practical then meaningful, The copper one opens the manor safe, which holds my entire life's savings, which I leave to you and Felix. It's not much, only a couple thousand caps, but I want it to be yours.

The silver key is for my bedroom. I hope you find the answers that I know you have about me.

The doll is very important to me. It belonged to a young Colt named Hashtag, you wouldn't know him but he meant a lot to me. The day he died I found it in his room. He had clumsily stitched it together as a welcome home gift for me.

The knife is a remnant of my past - one that's not so great. I'm sure now that I'm gone my friends will have no quarry telling you all who the evil man 'Scyto' was, in their tales. It's an odd request, but please keep it with you whenever you go out, it will protect you.

The handkerchief is just a handkerchief. It's purple, which is my favourite color.


The nurse says I have to get back to bed now, so I'll leave you with this:

I'm so proud of you and Felix. The two of you have been through so much and I've watched you do nothing but improve yourself throughout it. You two are the greatest siblings I've ever seen, and I hope you two always watch out for each other.

... When I was young, I made a mistake. In fact, I made quiet a few, but the biggest one was probably that I didn't spend enough time with my son. Hashtag. I've never forgiven myself for his death, and I never will, but I ask you to forgive an old stallion for his foolishness - I had adopted you and your brother for my own selfish needs. I had wanted the feeling of have children again.

This is it, Shayle, Felix, I am going forever now. Never lose yourself, never rise high enough that the fall will destroy you, and believe in your friends.

Risk nods, and grins. "You don't have to tell me twice. I don't know how some people do it. Adventuring seems all well and good in the books and stories and stuff, but actually going on an adventure doesn't even compare."

As Shayle read the note, she could feel tears beginning to form in the corners of her eyes. She had never known that Nova saw her and her brother as his kids, even if she had thought of him as the closest she'd ever had to a Father. "I forgive you...Dad," she whispered softly to the paper, as if doing so would somehow help him rest a little easier.
When she finally finished reading, the mare placed the tear stained piece of paper to the side and gently pulled each item from the box, looking over each one for a minute or two before setting it on top of the paper.
She took the knife and carefully wrapped it in the handkerchief before gripping it in her tail. The mare took the silver key, the one for Nova's room, into her teeth and slowly trotted to where the stallion used to sleep, slightly nervous about what she may find. The doll, scarf, and remaining key she left with the note for Felix, deciding those would be of more value to him than her.
When she finally reached his room, the mare turned the key and quietly stepped in.

Other then a small mattress with no frame, a tourism poster of Friedrichshorfen from before the war on the wall, and some hay badly hiding a trap door.

"Y-yeah, right. We're safe, well relatively anyways."She smiles

Shayle trotted over and moved some of the hay before slowly pulling open the door, suddenly remembering what Isaac had told her about Nova back in Japony.
"He won't have anything bad...Isaac is just overreacting," she mumbled to herself, hoping she was right as she stepped down into the door.

The stairway down is fairly short, only leading into where the houses basement should have been - if it had one.

There are three large objects in the room. A Terminal, a life-sized mannequin of a colt, dressed in old rotting pre-war clothes that were too big for it... and a large, wooden chest.

(( *sigh* I'm really on the fence about introducing this here... but it makes sense in my Character Lore... ))

Shayle stared at the mannequin for a few seconds, not quite sure what it could have been for, but looked away to the terminal. She trotted to it slowly and pressed a key, waiting for the screen to wake while she looked over the chest.

((That mannequin...methinks it's his son's clothes. And yes, Shayle knows how to read in this. She's been in New Hope for 5 years before leaving, so i think she'd have picked it up from somebody at some point.))

The screen pops onto life, and reveals about a hundred text files. The first one is titled 'Read first'.

"Mhmm. Dad has his ways of keeping the town safe."

Placebo enters the clinic, putting her cigarette out and throwing it in a nearby bin.
