"Yes and no... the elders, my mother and aunts and uncles, don't have natural souls. They got theirs from Luna. Normally when someone has a child a piece of the mothers and fathers soul becomes part of the child. This isn't a problem for those with natural souls, because they kind of heal themselves. The elders have a finite amount of soul, so every time they have a child they lose another piece of themselves. I can't fix them, but I can stop them from dying."
